This event, ITREALMS gathered was a significant expansion of Nigeria's professional IT community, with the largest group of inductees being the 800 ordinary members, a category that includes a wide range of professionals, students, and enthusiasts.

This strategic shift was the cornerstone of the welcome address delivered by Dr. Muhammad Sirajo Aliyu, President of the NCS, at the opening of the 2025 Cybersecurity Forum, held at the National Open University Head Office in Abuja.

Under the resounding theme, "Digital Sovereignty: Building an Agile and Resilient Nation," Dr. Aliyu underscored the escalating sophistication and impact of cyberattacks, from ransomware crippling essential services to threats against critical infrastructure. He passionately declared that the time for reactive measures alone is over; Nigeria must now proactively fortify its digital frontiers.

"The digital world we rely on for communication, commerce, governance, and daily life is under constant threat," Dr. Aliyu stated, painting a stark picture of the challenges. "Cyberattacks are growing in scale, sophistication, and impact. From ransomware targeting hospitals and schools, to threats against critical infrastructure and personal data breaches, the need for robust cybersecurity practices has never been greater."

The forum, a flagship initiative of the NCS, has brought together a formidable assembly of minds: experts from government, industry, academia, and the private sector. Their mission, as articulated by Dr. Aliyu, extends beyond merely understanding the current threat landscape. It's about forging "forward-looking strategies in AI security, data protection, incident response, policy, and international cooperation."

Intensive training and development of a robust pipeline of cybersecurity experts capable of effectively managing and defending these critical infrastructures. Recognizing the global shortage of skilled professionals, Nigeria must cultivate its own talent pool.


Aggressive, nationwide cybersecurity advocacy campaigns, achieved through strategic partnerships with professional bodies like the Nigeria Computer Society. A few days ago, there was news break that a member and former chapter chairman of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) in Lagos State, Mr. Rogba Adeoye dragged the society to a Federal High Court in Lagos, where he obtained an Ex Parte order dated July 17, 2023.

Towards enhancing the integrity of the National Drivers license through the Driving School Standardisation Programme (DSSP), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced the use of Computer-Based Test (CBT) by applicants to eliminate all incidences of road traffic crashes resulting from bad road use culture, reports ITREALMS.

The Corps Marshal, FRSC, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, ITREALMS gathered, has ordered the commencement of CBT for fresh applicants of the national drivers license in all the driving schools nationwide, effective from 1 June, 2021.

Computer Professionals to relocate headquarters to Abuja - Uwadia

All is now set for the relocation of the headquarters of the Computer Professionals (RegistrationCouncil) of Nigeria (CPN) to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, reports ITRealms.

Confirming this development to ITRealms, CPN president and chairman in council, Prof. Charles Uwadia, said in Lagos, Tuesday at the maiden edition of the Media Forum with Media Executives Forum which included Information Technology (IT) Editors and Journalists at Sheraton Hotel, that all is set to achieve this mandate.

 According to him, the CPN council has already given its green light on this move which must commence as soon as possible, stressing that the move is to aside closing ranks with its supervisory ministry of Education and other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in carrying it out its regulatory function to aid entrenchment of professionalism in the IT practices among stakeholders.

The current Lagos office, he said, would be retained and active despite the proposed relocation, just as the exercise will be completed before end of this year, 2018.

ITRealms recalls that the Prof. Uwadia-led council came into stream since July 2017 and was formally inaugurated by the Minister for Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu on Friday 8^th September, 2017 in Abuja.

Till date, the current council had hosted a strategic session for newly inaugurated Council members and CPN management on Thursday 7^th September, 2017 at Ayalla Hotel, Abuja, in addition to hosting the 82 and 83 regular meeting of the council both in Abuja and Lagos respectively.

For improved interaction with other sister agencies of government, ITRealms reports that CPN had signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Council of Colleges of Education (NCCE); paid courtesy visits to Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), National Universities Commission (NUC), Budget and National Planning.

Further, ITRealms reports that CPN equally held a maiden edition of the Information Technology (IT) CEOs’ Roundtable with the theme, “Leveraging Information Technology for Economic Recovery” at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, on Tuesday 7^thNovember, 2017 to name a few.

2019: Computer Guild berates Communication Minister

The Computer Guild of Nigeria (CGN) has berated the Minister of Communication, Barr. Adebayo Shittu over the distribution of campaign cap during the country’s NEC meeting where they were to discuss crucial national issues, reports ITRealms.

National President of the Guild, Mr. Wole Adedoyin expressed this displeasure during the guild’s January meeting in Lagos on Tuesday, describing the Minister’s action  and performance as disgrace to the entire communication industry in Nigeria.

Mr. Adedoyin who is also the Coordinator of Information Technology Writers Association of Nigeria (ITWAN) described Shittu’s behavior as unethical and unpatriotic.

“Barrister Shittu should have his head examined. His unruly behavior during the NEC meeting shows how he handles the ministry”.

“We have said it many times that Barr. Shittu is not competent and efficient to handle the ministry," he said. 

Insisting that the Minister should be given another portfolio. Ministry of Communication is a wrong place for him to be. We are begging President Mohammadu Buhari to please put him to where he belongs before the worst occur," Adedoyin submitted.

60% of Nigerian Pastors computer illiterates

The National President of the Association of Nigeria Christian Authors and Publishers (ANCAPS), Mr. Wole Adedoyin, has revealed that estimated 60 per cent Nigerian pastors are computer and internet illiterates, reports ITRealms.

This, he told ITRealms, is the major reason why Nigerian Pastors are not using computer and internet to evangelize and win more souls to the body of Christ.

ITRealms reports that Adedoyin, who doubles as the National Coordinator of the Computer Guild of Nigeria (CGN)  made this known while unveiling the 2017 winners of ANCAP’s Nigerian Christian Literature Award at the ANCAPS secretariat in Ibadan on Wednesday.

“Blessed Pope John Paul II, in 2002 in his message for the 36^thWorld Communication Day asserted that Internet can offer magnificent opportunities for evangelization if used with competence and a clear awareness of its strengths and weaknesses above all by providing information and stirring interest it makes possible an initial encounter with the Christian message. New media, and specifically websites, blogs, and social networking tools such as twitter and face book allow us “to cast wide our nets” like never before. Never in the history of mankind have we had a greater opportunity to evangelize to so many so quickly. Let us “be not afraid to lower our nets through the use of new media and trust in the immense “catch” that God will provide.”

“Presently on 30 per cent of Nigeria Christian Ministers of God are using social media to evangelize. Millions of people use social media every day, many of who are sinners. Many of them post pornography videos and pictures, post hate speeches, gossips and perpetrate many other devilish acts,” he said.

He noted that though some big churches like the Catholic Church, RCCG, Winners Chapel, Deeper Life, GOFAMINT, MFM to mention but few are already utilizing social media for winning souls.

Adedoyin, equally said the body received 15 published Christian books and 7 Christian books in manuscripts format. But after thorough judgments by the selected judges, only 4 books won 4 different awards this year.

The winners, he said, are Mrs. Mbadugha Chigozie Anuli; Winner; Samuel Ajayi Crowther Writers Award, she won with her book “Beyond The Trial”. Miss Akalonu Ndudi Onyinyechukwu; Winner; Mathew Ashimolowo Christian Writers Award, she also won with her book “Not Easy But Gainful Waiting”. Udedike, Peter Chigozie; Winner; 2017 Young Writers Award; won with his book “Voice Of A Suicide and other Stories” and lastly Saint Olawale Jimoh; Winner ; John Bunyan Prize for Best Essay won with a collection of essay book in manuscript format.

He further advised Nigerian evangelists and pastors to embrace internet evangelism by creating Internet/cyber mission department in their churches.

Computer society 13th confab underway

The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has disclosed that its 13th International Conference, would be holding in Abuja from July 18 to 20, 2017, reports ITRealms.

NCS, ITRealms reports, is the national platform advancing Information Technology Sciences and Practices in the country.

The Executive Secretary at NCS, Mr. Iyiola Ayoola, told ITRealms that the society intends to explore and recommend ways in which IT innovation can address the local and global dimensions of sustainable development.

“NCS keeps advocating strongly for strategic focus on IT to meet the nation’s present and future developmental needs. The challenges require innovative IT oriented models, responses and culture and NCS is taking leadership in organizing the first ever national event dedicated to tech innovation for sustainable development in Nigeria,” he said.

According to him, the theme of this year conference is “Information Technology Innovation for Sustainable Development” stressing that IT industry players, academics, researchers and thought leaders have been invited to speak, engage and proffer solutions based on this theme and associated sub-themes.

He also said that strategic IT interventions open up more opportunities and provide novel, smart options to resolve pressing challenges and foster the realization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  Without deliberate strategy IT actually hinders sustainability. NCS is of the belief that through innovative approaches challenges can in fact be turned into opportunities.

“Attention will be paid to IT innovation for economic development, governance, gender diversity, social inclusion, youth empowerment and environmental opportunities. Activities will raise awareness on the role of ICT as a tool and a key catalyst for achieving the SDGs,” he said.

The event, he said, is a content rich event with focus on relevance and impact, stakeholders from government, industry, academia, the United Nations, multilateral  agencies,  International organisations, youth groups and civil society will come together to provide answers and solutions in this most important area. Scientists reveal super-fast computer that ‘grows as it computes’

Latest findings by researchers from The University of Manchester have shown it is possible to build a new super-fast form of computer that “grows as it computes” reports ITRealms.

Professor Ross D King and his team, ITRealms gathered, demonstrated for the first time the feasibility of engineering a Nondeterministic Universal Turing Machine (NUTM), and their research is to be published in the prestigious Journal of the Royal Society Interface.

The theoretical properties of such a computing machine, Prof. King said, include its exponential boost in speed over electronic and quantum computers, in addition to having been well understood for many years. Stressing that the Manchester breakthrough demonstrates that it is actually possible to physically create a NUTM using DNA molecules.  

“Imagine a computer is searching a maze and comes to a choice point, one path leading left, the other right. Electronic computers need to choose which path to follow first,” explained Professor King of Manchester’s School of Computer Science.

King pointed out that the new computer doesn’t need to choose, for it could replicate itself and follow both paths at the same time, thus finding the answer faster.

King noted that this ‘magical’ property is possible because the computer’s processors are made of DNA rather than silicon chips, as all electronic computers have a fixed number of chips.

“Our computer’s ability to grow as it computes makes it faster than any other form of computer, and enables the solution of many computational problems previously considered impossible. Quantum computers are an exciting other form of computer, and they can also follow both paths in a maze, but only if the maze has certain symmetries, which greatly limits their use,” King said.

“As DNA molecules are very small a desktop computer could potentially utilize more processors than all the electronic computers in the world combined - and therefore outperform the world’s current fastest supercomputer, while consuming a tiny fraction of its energy.”

The University of Manchester is famous for its connection with Alan Turing - the founder of computer science - and for creating the first stored memory electronic computer.

“This new research builds on both these pioneering foundations,” added Professor King.

Alan Turing’s greatest achievement was inventing the concept of a universal Turing machine (UTM) - a computer that can be programmed to compute anything any other computer can compute.  Electronic computers are a form of UTM, but no quantum UTM has yet been built.
