Nigeria's inflation: Beyond the numbers by Elvis Eromosele - ITREALMS
Commentary@ITREALMS ... making leadership SENSE with digital news!
Preamble:
I was in Ikotun market at the weekend, shopping for groceries with Madam. While it was coated in romantic garbs, i.e. 'continuation of valentine', the aim was surreptitiously to see where one's money was entering in these times. A lady buying tomatoes just ahead of us, priced (haggled) up and down and finally exclaimed "We no kuku fit chop the money".
This is precisely the stark reality in the face of soaring inflation rates, "we can't eat currency." Currency is meant to be spent even though the value has depreciated. The sad thing is that inflation isn't just a number on a report; it's a tangible force that impacts the lives of millions, particularly in a country like Nigeria where food prices are surging at an alarming rate.

Lenten Reflections: Distinction between penance and prayer by Fr. Ebido - ITREAELMS

I do not intend to write every day of this Lenten period. I will write if I have something important to share. So take note of this. I listened at the homily preached by our house deacon this morning at Mass and I felt he made a point a wider audience needs to hear.
Essentially he quoted our brother, St. Thomas Aquinas who made a distinction between two forms of penance: one that is subjective, initiated by the individual, and that which is imposed by another (God). The people of Nineveh (Jonah 3:1-10) avoided the latter one, God’s punishment, when they chose to do the former (self-imposed penance).

Ahead of the37th AU Summit, it is important this does not become yet-another perceived talk-shop where African heads of State confer with stakeholders and donors of the AU to drink Ethiopian coffee – and sometimes Kenyan tea – while pretending to agree on things that had already been agreed on years earlier.
For an institution that has recently celebrated 20 years of its existence and looking forward to another fruitful 20 years, while also reflecting over its 10 years of its Continental and flagship project of Agenda 2063, there is evidently a lot of deep introspection to be had on the efficacy of this institution, and how it can continue to deliver meaningfully to its citizens.
