$100,000 race: NLNG releases 11-book longlist for 2026 Nigeria Prize for Literature - ITREALMS

Eleven outstanding poetry collections have successfully emerged on the longlist for the 2026 edition of The Nigeria Prize for Literature, advancing in the race for Africa’s premier literary award and its accompanying $100,000 cash prize, reports ITREALMS.
The announcement was officially issued by the Chairperson of the Prize’s Advisory Board, Prof. Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo, following a rigorous screening process of 223 submissions by the panel of judges.

NNPC/Shell vision first outreach: Over 2,000 benefit @Lagos community - ITREALMS

A recent outreach program organized by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPC) and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Ltd (SNEPCo) as part of their Vision First initiative has brought joy to over 2,000 individuals in a Lagos community, with many beneficiaries testifying to restored sight after receiving medical attention.

The five-day outreach, which took place in the Mushin Local Council Development Area, was the fourth in Lagos since the introduction of the Vision First initiative in 2022. During the program, a medical team performed 245 eye surgeries, including 198 cataract and 47 Pterygium surgeries.

The Oyo State Government has begun the second phase of the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER). The state government kick-started the phase with the distribution of 10kg bags of rice to 30,000 residents at the weekend.

As part of the 2025 Annual National Food Intervention Programme, the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF), has distributed 50,000 bags of rice to poor and vulnerable families in Kebbi and Gombe States, reports ITREALMS.

Vaccines will be delivered to countries affected by the upsurge of mpox that continues to constitute a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), just as the first shipment of 11,200 doses arrived in Nigeria on 20 December, reports ITREALMS.

In an unprecedented move, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a further reduction of the price of diesel from 1200 to 1,000 naira per litre.

Financial Literacy: NNPC Foundation trains over 200,000 youths corps members - ITREALMS

In its bid to build the capacity of youth towards making them employers of labour, the NNPC Foundation, in partnership with Kudimata Nigeria Limited, a financial education outfit, have trained the Batch C members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in basic financial literacy skills.

The training, which aligned with the objectives of Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) scheme of NYSC had its maiden edition featuring Batch B stream in the past months. 12,000 Nigerians petition INEC to remove Olusegun Agbaje over bigotry+video - ITREALMS

Over 12,000 Nigerians and largely Lagosians, have signed a petition for the removal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Commissioner for Lagos State, Mr. Olusegun Agbaje for alleged incompetence and bigotry, reports 
ITREALMS.

As at the time of filing this report, barely 48 hours after the commencement of the petition, 

ITREALMS gathered that some 12,451 concerned Nigerians have signed the online petition at Change.org.

CBN revisits withdrawal limits, fixes .5m & 5m for individuals, corporates - ITREALMS

In obvious surrender to the public pressure and outcry over the recent proclamations by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the apex bank, has increased the weekly limit for cash withdrawals across all channels by individuals and corporate organisations to N500,000 and N5 million, in that order, reports ITREALMS.
A letter to financial institutions on Thursday, dated December 21, 2022, and signed by the Director, Banking Supervision at CBN, Haruna B. Mustafa, alluded to the fact that they are a listening organisation by increasing withdrawals against earlier announced.
