With over 70 per cent of unconvicted inmates in the Nigerian correctional facilities, the Prisoners Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA) has called for the adoption of parole; a non-custodial measure to help decongest prisons, and increase public safety.

A parolee is the early release of an inmate who agrees to abide by certain conditions. Parole allows inmates serving long sentences to be released before their expected day of release.

When I started at OGP 10 years ago, I could not have imagined where OGP, the community, and the world would be now. Back in 2012, I was excited by the simplicity and energy of the original idea of OGP: Creating space for civil society leaders to work on an equal footing with reformers inside government, to jointly push for domestically relevant reforms that would make government work better for and with the people.

By 2017, I was excited to see the OGP approach starting to work. Plans got better, the community grew, OGP mechanisms were refined, and reforms were delivered. In our strategic refresh, we made some bold, exciting choices, like investing in public service delivery, prioritizing citizen engagement, and exploring what open government could look like at the local level and in parliament and in the justice sector.

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested one Ms Muhibat Taiwo Abdulsalam, a staff of the Federal Competitive Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Katsina branch, over alleged murder of her boss, Mr. Julius Haruna, 57, in his office, over suspected inflated job, reports ITREALMS.

The Police also confirmed that Ms Muhibat is notorious for fighting previous four directors before the deceased, who is the Northwest Zonal Coordinator of the commission in his office and accused him of sexual harassment, last Wednesday.
