Trending wrongly: Renaming of military institutions, public infrastructure after PBAT by Dr Moses Paul - ITREALMS

Commentary@ITREALMS ... making leadership SENSE with digital news!

It is profoundly disappointing to witness the alarming trend of naming public institutions, infrastructure, and military facilities after a sitting president. This act runs counter to established principles of honor, service, and public morality. The recent decisions to name critical institutions after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, including barracks, airports, and other facilities, reflect a troubling disregard for historical preservation, respect for our fallen heroes, and the collective legacy of the Nigerian people.
Trending wrongly: Renaming of military institutions, public infrastructure after PBAT by Dr Moses Paul - ITREALMS
The renaming of a military barracks in Asokoro after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is particularly egregious. Military barracks are not mere structures; they are sanctuaries of sacrifice, discipline, and service to the nation. Naming such an institution after a sitting president, while Nigeria has countless soldiers who paid the ultimate price for our security, is a direct affront to their memory. It disregards the values of humility and honor associated with the armed forces and diminishes the legacy of those whose selfless acts secured our freedom.

Africa: Cairo to host 2nd ICANN managed root server - ITREALMS

ITREALMS ... making leadership SENSE with digital news!

Cairo, the capital of Egypt is to host the second location for the deployment of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) managed root server on the continent, reports ITREALMS.
Africa: Cairo to host 2nd ICANN managed root server - ITREALMS
This latest installation, ITREALMS gathered will be deployed in next month, September and was made possible following the understanding between the Coalition for Digital Africa (C4DA) and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

This deployment of ICANN Managed Root Server (IMRS) installation in Africa, ITREALMS also gathered was part of the C4DA initiative launched in 2022.

ITREALMS recalled that the first IMRS deployment was made operational in Nairobi, Kenya in November 2022, resulting in most Africa-based Internet Domain Name System (DNS) root queries now being resolved on the continent.

In addition, ITREALMS gathered that the IMRS in Nairobi, Kenya handles some 40 per cent of all IMRS DNS root queries for the continent, whereas prior to the installation, 35 to 40 percent of the DNS query traffic was traveling outside of Africa for resolution.

Experts informed
ITREALMS that the two IMRS installations increase the resiliency of the global Root Server System for Internet users across the continent. IMRS installations add root server capacity to support an expected exponential increase in Internet adoption across Africa. The IMRS installations assist in keeping Africa-sourced root Domain Name System (DNS) queries answered within the region and reduce dependence on networks and servers in other parts of the world. This resiliency improves the Internet experience for users across Africa.

The root servers also boost national and regional Internet resiliency by helping root server traffic stay local. Egypt's National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority is collaborating with ICANN in the installation of the IMRS in Cairo, Egypt.

The IMRS installations will reduce the impact of potential cyberattacks on Africa, should the global Root Server System be attacked. Distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) cyberattacks work by overwhelming servers with a flood of queries. With two separate IMRS deployment locations in Africa, and higher bandwidth and data processing capacity, the risk of the Internet being impacted because of a DDOS cyberattack is significantly reduced.

Further, ITREALMS recollected that C4DA was conceived by ICANN, as an alliance of like-minded organizations committed to building a robust and secure Internet infrastructure to bring more Africans online.

Celebration of ignorance: A Reno Omokri example - ITREALMS

Commentary@ITREALMS ... making leadership SENSE with digital news!

"Sadly, 50 years after that genocidal reaction towards Igbo civilians, those who carried out that cold-blooded mass murder, as well as their children and the children of those who kept silent when the massacre of Igbo civilians took place, are still justifying it with the argument that “the Igbo started it,” as if the killed Igbo civilians participated in the coup or were consulted by the soldiers during the planning of the coup."

Last week (of July 11, 2017), Mr Reno Omokri, former social media aide of erstwhile President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, reacted to a 2014 comment the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mr Nnamdi Kanu, made against Jonathan.

A century after Achebe's Okonkwo, another is here with us - ITREALMS

MidWeekCommentary@ITREALMS ... making leadership SENSE with digital news!

One of my greatest sources of pride as an Igbo man is having come from same tribe with Chinua Achebe. And God blessed me further with coming from same state with this literary iroko. Imagine what people from Ogidi, his community, had but seemingly didn't and evidently don't appropriately appreciate. This is a matter for another write-up.
His novel, Things Fall Apart, is known by any literate or even semi-literate African and beyond. That great work of creative art mainly draws its flowing appeal from just one character - OKONKWO.

How General Buhari populated VPN in Nigeria - ITREALMS

Features@ITREALMS ... making leadership SENSE with digital news!
The ban on Twitter by the General Muhammadu Buhari, retired-led government, is a symptom of how not to respond to a ‘21st century communications’ tool which has triggered adoption of the Virtual Private Network (VPN), writes REMMY NWEKE.

That General Buhari’s Tweet:

When we hear that knowledge is power, it could pass for one of those sagastic statements associated with evolutions. One of such came with the recent tweet by the President of Nigeria; General Muhammadu Buhari (retired) which trended for the better part of week, June 1, 2021.
