Compelling stories to herald Airtel Touching Lives Season 2

Preceding the Touching Lives Season 2 Premiere in Abuja, Airtel Nigeria, said compelling stories would herald the broadcast of the 13 episode programme on satellite and terrestrial television stations, reports ITRealms.

The programme, which captures how the plight and despair of people are turned into optimism, would kick off on Sunday, 17th January, 2016 on Africa Magic Channel 151 by 7.30pm through 8.00pm.

ITRealms also gathered that a repeat broadcast would be aired on Africa Magic Family 154 on Saturdays 8pm to 8.30pm; Africa Magic Urban on Thursdays 7.30pm to 8.00pm; AIT on Sundays by 6.30pm to 7pm; NTA on Wednesdays by 8.30pm to 9.00pm and Arewa 24 TV on Sundays by 7.00pm to 7.30pm.

The Airtel Touching Lives, ITRealms recalls is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) intervention of the company focused on empowering, uplifting and creating opportunities for under-privileged people, community and groups in the Nigerian society.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Airtel Nigeria, Segun Ogunsanya, urged Nigerians, including corporate organisations, government and NGOs, to join efforts in humanitarian causes to support the less privileged.

”If we all support just one programme in our immediate communities, it will make a huge difference in making our country a better place for all.

“At Airtel, we believe that to be a great company, we must be a good company; and we are very much committed to earning our social license – the love and acceptance of the various communities and people we serve,” he said.

The premiere of the Airtel Touching Lives Season 2, which held at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton, Abuja was attended by several important dignitaries including the majority leader, House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; Sen. Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Communications; Hon. Saheed Fijabi, Chairman, House Committee on Communications; Honourable Minister for Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun; Minister, Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalong; wife of Hon. Minister for Solid Minerals, Erelu Olabisi Fayemi;  Indian High Commissioner, A. Ghanashyam and British Deputy High Commissioner, Simon Shercliff, among several others.

Ace comedian, Akpororo; the Vintage Band and the Xplicit dance troupe added colour to the event as they thrilled guests with breath-taking performances.

The Season 2 is a 13-epidose programme, which features 24 emotion-evoking stories it is anchored by popular On-Air-Personality, Wana Udobang.

Tigo Tanzania pays $2.1m in quarterly profit share to customers

Leading digital lifestyle company in Tanzania, Tigo, has remitted its quarterly payment to of US $ 2.1million (Tshs 4.4 bilion) about N3.9m to its 4.6 million Tigo Pesa users, the seventh time in a row that the company is distributing profit to its mobile financial services users, ITRealms report.

Speaking at a press conference in Dar es Salaam, Tigo Tanzania Head of Finance and Risk for Mobile Financial Services, Obedi Laiser said cumulatively, the company has paid its mobile financial services users a total of US $ 16. 5million (Tshs 35.5 billion) quarterly payments since September 2014.

The payment is generated from profit accruing in the Tigo Pesa Trust accounts held with major commercial banks in Tanzania, Laiser said.

A press stated endorsed by the Corporate Communications Manager, Tigo Tanzania, Mr. John Wanyancha also noted that Tigo Tanzania was the first telecom company in the world in 2014 to share profit generated from its mobile money Trust Account in the form of a quarterly distribution to its customers.

The revenue share model is in line with the Tanzanian Central Bank (Bank of Tanzania-BOT) which allows the country’s mobile operators to increase e-money deposits and mobile money transactions through new loyalty incentives. 

“This profit share is payable to all Tigo Pesa users including individual customers, retail agents and our business partners each based on the e-value they have stored in their Tigo Pesa wallets,” Laiser said.

He pointed out their excitement to be announcing this profit share distribution for the seventh successive time. 

"The payment underlines Tigo Tanzania’s commitment to provide financial access to our customers and to promote financial inclusion in the country through our Tigo Pesa services,” he said.

Further, Wanyancha quoted the BOT as saying Tanzania has aims at attaining a 50 per cent national financial inclusion of its population by 2016.

The East African country has an estimated population of 45 million people.

Ojukwu Centre advocates for compulsory learning of Igbo language

The Ikemba Ojukwu Centre has advanced plans to advocate compulsory learning of Igbo language at its forthcoming conference next month in Owerri, Imo State, reports ITRealms.

The Centre, ITRealms gathered has on top of its agenda, the strategy for a private member bill to be sent to Houses of Assembly in the South Eastern part of the country aimed at making the teaching of Igbo language compulsory in all schools in Igboland.

ITRealms also gathered, the Houses of Assembly are to conduct their sessions in Igbo language at least thrice a week.

The Ikemba Ojukwu Centre, Owerri, further lamented that Igbos who were on the commanding heights of the military, politics, academia and commerce before Nigeria’s independence were now at the lowest rung in the nation’s socio-political and economic development.

The Director-General of the centre, Dr. Samfo Nwankwo, at another confab in Umuahia, Abia State, Thursday pointed out that Igbo people are suffering cultural identity crisis, as the Igbo language was on the verge of extinction.

Nwankwo decried that after a painful analysis of what has been the lot of the Igbo recently, the centre, decided to convoke an emergency conference, which involved all prominent Igbos and groups, to know where the problem arose and why.
