The Oyo State Government has subsidized transport fares for 5.8 million passengers under the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) initiative between January and July 2025, reports ITREALMS.

The SAfER Transport initiative allows residents to pay as low as N100 to N200 on routes within Ibadan and other major cities, with a maximum fare of N1,500 for inter-city transportation from Ibadan to other parts of the state. PTS has deployed 55 buses for the SAfER intervention, commuting an average of 17,000 residents daily at half price on intra-city and inter-city routes.
Governor Seyi Makinde introduced the SAfER initiative to cushion the effect of economic hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidy. The state government augments the cost of fueling and maintenance of the buses, with each bus consuming 70 liters of diesel at N1,200 per liter, resulting in a daily expenditure of over N70,000 but only generating around N40,000 in revenue.
The PTS chairman, Dr. Dikko, praised Governor Makinde for transforming and reforming the transport company, which had become moribund prior to his assumption of office in 2019.
Stressing that under Makinde's leadership, PTS has experienced significant growth, including increased functioning vehicles and routes, payment of pensions and gratuities, and restructuring of the workforce for better service delivery.
