Aliko Dangote, the founder of Dangote Cement Plc, has retired as Chairman and Director of the Board, effective, Friday, July 25, 2025, reports ITREALMS.

He stepped down to focus on the company's refinery, petrochemicals, fertilizer, and government relations, aiming to drive the company's five-year business trajectory to new heights.
This is coming as Emmanuel Ikazoboh, a seasoned independent non-executive director, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors.

As Chairman, Dangote leaves behind a legacy of transforming the cement industry landscape. Under his visionary leadership, Dangote Cement Plc became Africa's largest cement producer and exporter of cement and clinker in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The company has a production capacity of 52 million tonnes per annum (Mta) across the continent, with Nigeria accounting for 35.25Mta.

Additional greenfield plants are coming up in Cote Ivoire (3.0Mta) and Itori, Nigeria (6.0 Mta), which will push the total capacity to 61.0Mta upon completion.

During his tenure, Dangote Cement Plc recorded its highest revenue and Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) in the company's history.

In the six months ending June 30, 2025, the group revenue increased by 17.7 percent to N2,071.6 billion, while EBITDA grew by 41.8 percent to N944.900 billion.

The company's profit before tax surged by 149 percent to N730 billion, and profit after tax rose by 174.1 percent to N520.5 billion.

In his acceptance speech, Ikazoboh, a seasoned independent non-executive director, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors, pledged to uphold the highest standards of leadership and dedication, focusing on sustainable growth, operational efficiency, and core values.

Ikazoboh's vision for Dangote Cement Plc includes driving down costs, adopting alternative fuels and technologies, and investing in employee training and development.

Hajiya Mariya Aliko Dangote has also been appointed to the Board of Directors, while Prof. Dorothy Ufot has retired from the Board.

Industry watchers informed ITREALMS that with Ikazoboh at the helm, Dangote Cement Plc is poised to continue its trajectory of growth and excellence, building on the foundation laid by Aliko Dangote.
