Otti to FG: Additional states in South East, desirable - ITREALMS

ITREALMS ... making leadership SENSE with digital news!

The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, has addressed a misleading narrative circulating in the media suggesting his opposition to the creation of additional states in the South East, reports ITREALMS.

Governor Otti's stance on the creation of new states in Nigeria remains unchanged, according to the Special Adviser to the Governor, Ferdinand Ekeoma made available to ITREALMS on Sunday.
He expressed believe that the country does not need more states, especially given that many existing ones lack economic viability. Instead, he advocated for a six regional structure to reduce governance costs.

However, he noted the imbalance in state distribution, with one geopolitical zone in the North having 7 states, while others have 6, except the South East with 5.

To address this, he supports creating one additional state for the South East but not across all zones.

Governor Otti emphasizes that critical issues require thoughtful consideration, unswayed by fleeting interests.

Historical precedents, Ekeoma said, showed that impactful governance is not contingent on state creation, citing examples of leaders who achieved significant development and prosperity in larger regions and states.

Creating more states without a solid economic foundation, Otti was quoted as saying, would exacerbate division and hinder national progress, particularly during economic challenges.

Governor Otti urged stakeholders, especially public office holders, to prioritize the long-term welfare of citizens over personal interests.
