The Oko Community in Orumba North Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State has concluded arrangements for the burial and final rites of passage of its traditional Prime Minister, Onowu Oko, Ichie Martin Ezeosim, scheduled for Thursday, October 9, 2025, reports ITREALMS.
Ichie Ezeosim, who served as the traditional Prime Minister and second-in-command to the Igwe of Oko, died at the age of 78. He was widely celebrated for his significant contributions to the growth and development of the community.
The funeral will commence with a Christian burial service at his country home in Eziabo Village, Oko, followed by a grand civic reception at the Alex Ekwueme Civic Centre.
To ensure a befitting farewell, a Burial Committee chaired by Chief Larry Iloh of the Oko Council of Chiefs, with representation from across the community, has been inaugurated. The committee has pledged to deliver a ceremony worthy of the late Onowu’s stature, drawing participation from government officials, indigenes, and friends of Oko.
In his tribute, Igwe Prof. Ekwueme expressed profound grief at the loss of a dependable and illustrious leader, noting that Onowu’s commitment to service and leadership left lasting legacies. He urged the committee to honour him with fitting rites.
Similarly, the President of OPU, Nze Sunday Nwafor, described the late Onowu as a humble Christian, whose life of courage, dignity, and service should inspire younger generations.
A press statement available to ITREALMS by the Chairman, Publicity Sub-Committee of the Burial Committee, Chief (Sir) Reuben Muoka, quoted the Committee Chairman, Chief Larry Iloh, as assuring that no effort would be spared to rally Oko sons, daughters, and friends in paying a final tribute to their late traditional Prime Minister.
