Love has many languages. For Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, love speaks through legacy. In honour of his late wife, Gbemisola Olutayo Olowolafe, he has planted two seeds in Are-Ekiti, namely an ICT centre and a model secondary school that promise to outlive grief and outshine death.
The Gbemisola Olowolafe Memorial ICT Centre is a 40-seater hub equipped with high-speed internet, stable power, and a curriculum designed for the future, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Quantum Computing, cybersecurity, data analytics, and digital marketing.
With these, Nigerian youths are being shaped into netizens, citizens of the global digital village, fluent in the tools that will define tomorrow.
Side by side stands the Community Secondary School, a model learning environment handed over to Ekiti State to serve local families.
Classrooms wired for broadband, teachers supported with global training, and learners prepared for world-class certifications, these are the building blocks of an education that does not just inform but empowers.
But behind these bricks and screens lies something deeper. They are acts of remembrance. Dr. Olowolafe calls them a tribute to his wife’s “extraordinary strength, wisdom, and compassion.” In truth, they are also a love letter to future generations, proof that even in mourning, one can build.
Nigeria, unfortunately, has left too many classrooms broken, too many young minds unprepared for the demands of the digital economy. Government blueprints often fade with time, leaving individuals to light the path. It is here that private grief becomes public good, showing us that legacy is not only about inheritance but about investment in people, in knowledge, in possibilities.
For Gbemisola’s love, generations of young Nigerians will gain digital literacy, job readiness, and the confidence to claim a place in the world. For her memory, rural Ekiti now carries the seeds of global innovation.
For Nigeria’s future, the lesson is clear; the surest path to national progress is not through oil wealth or borrowed funds, but through education that prepares our youth to be creators, not bystanders, in the digital age.
