With the world grappling with compounded crises from armed conflicts and mass displacement to climate emergencies and economic shocks, global leaders have sounded a clarion call to safeguard the health of the world’s most vulnerable.
As a result, women, children, and adolescents remain at heightened risk of preventable deaths, whether from pregnancy-related complications, malaria, or the absence of basic health services in conflict zones.
In response to these escalating challenges, H.E. President Cyril Ramaphosa, Chair of the Global Leaders Network for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health, will join forces with H.E. Duma Boko, Chair of the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA), to unveil bold, coordinated actions for global health security.
The announcement will take place on the margins of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at a high-level event titled “Uniting for Global Health Security” scheduled for Wednesday, 24 September 2025, at Conference Room 4, United Nations Headquarters, New York, between 13:15 – 14:25 hours.
The initiative underscores a renewed commitment to place women, children, and adolescents at the center of global health priorities, while confronting systemic fragilities that threaten decades of progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This side event will also serve as a platform to rally governments, multilateral institutions, and development partners around a collective action framework for peace, security, and sustainable health systems.
“The stakes could not be higher. Protecting women, children, and adolescents is not just a moral imperative—it is a cornerstone for global stability, resilience, and shared prosperity,” a statement from the organizers noted.
