His Royal Majesty, Igwe Ezekwesili Maduagwuna, Ofemili I of Awba-Ofemili, has commended Ogbuefi Remmy Nweke, author of The Village Priest, for his dexterity, cultural sensitivity, and passion for knowledge sharing, reports ITREALMS.
Receiving the author at his palace, Igwe Maduagwuna described the work as both a literary and cultural milestone.
The visit also featured the book copy presentation to the Chairman of OyeAgu-Awba Progressive Union (OPU), Mr. Godwin Obi, accompany by his team.
The Village Priest tells the story of Ogboo AniEze, the revered chief priest of Ilimefo, who confronts the realities of modern technology while striving to preserve the traditions of rural Igboland.
With wit and depth, the book portrays how GSM technology and digital tools challenge and ultimately complement traditional practices, underscoring the delicate balance between cultural heritage and contemporary change.
The book has received widespread acclaim, particularly at the Nigeria DigitalSENSE Africa Forum on Internet Governance for Development (IG4D), where ICT stakeholders hailed it as a timely narrative on how rural communities engage with the digital revolution.
Gbenga Sesan, Executive Director of Paradigm Initiative, reviewed the book, describing it as “a careful work of cultural documentation” that thoughtfully captures the transition of African communities adapting to digital innovation.
