To our Senator, Natasha,An open letter by Anold Ali Ovurevu to suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti.
Democracy is a complex system of government. It keeps evolving since it started in Greece. Democracy is not perfect. Democracy only reflects the resolves and wills of the political actors at a particular time. Trump is proving to the world, democracy is not as flawless in America as most of us once believed.
Nigerian democracy since 1999 is full of drama. Some politicians survived while other are consumed for good. The same misconduct Farooq Lawal went under for, others do swagger with it. You remember Salisu and Toronto certificate saga. Politically, he is yet to recover.
I want you to learn something from Fubara. He came in as product of imperfect system. Maybe if elections were 100% free and fair, Rivers people would have preferred another candidate.
Fubara proved he was man enough, applied his Executive powers to have a stand but Wike has better strategy and more powers to distrust his. The lesson is, those with Federal might win. Fubara retreated, and he is coming back. Hold the seat first, then prove anything later.
Some of the greatest warriors of history once retreated. Jesus had to take refuge in Egypt and the prophet of Islam escaped to Medina from Mecca. Moses didn't stay in Egypt to fight Pharaoh despite in possession of powerful totem. He left the land. If you can leave to fight another day, why do you want to perish now?
Ma'am, reach out to Senate leadership. There is nothing left to prove. You have done your best. Is no longer about Sen. Akpabio, it is more of standing to fight the entire institution of National Assembly. This is not your fight. Nobody has ever won such battle.
Do whatever they ask you to do. Put your two hands up. Let them accept you back rather than just going back.
Is one thing to be in the red chamber, and entirely another thing to be rendered useless. Senate is all about lobby. You can not function as senator without the nod of senate leadership which Akpabio leads. But the senate was fictional for 6 months without you.
In this six months, Akpabio didn't lose. Only Kogi Central lost. Your infrastructural outreach across Kogi Central is commendable but it doesn't substitute your absence at the senate.
Ma'am, this is the time for sober reflection.
Like Chief Edward Onoja, reconcile, embrace( stop making more enemies) and most importantly, relearn.
May the experiences in the last 6 months enrich your wisdom. May your coming back to senate be more rewarding to Kogi Central and your political career. Ameen.
