The Chairperson of the Customs Officers Wives Association (COWA), Onne Area 11 Command, Hajia Amina Babandede, has emphasized the organization's dedication to nurturing children's creativity and innovative potential during the 2025 Children's Day celebration, reports ITREALMS.
The event took place at the command's staff quarters in Ebubu, Eleme Local Government Area, Rivers State.
This year's theme, "Stand up, Speak up, building a bullying-free generation," highlighted the collective responsibility of caregivers and educators in safeguarding children's rights and ensuring their protection.
Babandede stated, "Every child is a gift of hope, deserving of protection and equipped with the necessary education and skills for future leadership."
She also commended the national President of COWA, Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi, for prioritizing members' welfare and children's development.

"Mrs. Adeniyi excels in capacity building for our children and supporting the welfare of officers' wives," Babandede said, noting that the Onne command has mirrored these values through its various welfare programs.
"I encourage our children to maintain self-confidence and stand tall in their endeavors, for they are our future leaders. I am confident in the immense leadership potential I see in these children and believe in a bright future for the Nigerian child, free from bullying," she affirmed.
Eight-year-old Miss Zukora Edeh, in her welcome address, praised COWA for organizing a program filled with fun and games, including a bouncing castle, Mickey Mouse, and Spiderman attractions. She also advised parental guidance regarding children's exposure to television and the internet.
Miss Ochi Success, representing the children, pledged to embody positive values and remain focused on their studies. "Dear parents," she said, "monitor our internet activities, television viewing, and reading materials. Teach us right from wrong so we can make informed decisions. Treat us equally, teach us forgiveness, and correct us with love."
Deputy Comptroller John Ejeh, Customs Barracks Chairman and DC Enforcement Onne Customs Area 11 Command, applauded the children's performances. He urged parents to ensure their children's holistic development, predicting that many of them would become future leaders. "Some of the children you see today will be presidents, governors, senators, and members of the House of Representatives," he remarked, also envisioning some as "first ladies." He prayed for their guidance and believed they would surpass their parents' achievements.
The celebration's highlight was the cutting of the Children's Day cake. Notable attendees included Superintendent of Customs, SC. Mrs. Latecia Ikegwuonu, COWA liaison officer, Mrs. Vivian Umuzuruike, and other Onne COWA leaders.
