According to the public statement available to
ITREALMS, the six-man committee included Mrs. Hadia El Miniawi – Northern Africa, Mr. Houegnon Geoffroy Bonou – Western Africa, Mr. Albert Kamga – Central Africa, Prof. Madara Ogot – Southern Africa, Mr. Godfrey Sserwamukoko – Eastern Africa, and Mr. Yagianath Rosunee – Indian Ocean.

This appointment follows the annulment of the previous board election due to procedural disputes.

The NomCom's primary role is to identify and vet candidates for the upcoming board elections, oversee the electoral process, and ensure its integrity and transparency.

The elections are scheduled to be held exclusively online on August 29, 2025. According to the Receiver, this measure is a critical step toward restoring trust and fairness in AFRINIC's governance.

ITREALMS recalled that AFRALO had previously played a significant role in addressing AFRINIC's governance crisis, particularly when the organization faced a period without a quorate board starting June 14, 2022.

In response, AFRALO under the immediate past-chair, Seun Ojedeji, passed a resolution in support of AFRINIC, demonstrating its commitment to resolving the issue, which was sent to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) on August 23 and approval received three days later on August 28.

The NomCom is responsible for selecting eligible candidates for Board positions at AFRINIC and consists of a chair and three other members appointed by the Board of Directors. Hadia Elminiawi's appointment highlights AFRALO's continued involvement in promoting good governance within AFRINIC.

AFRALO's role in Internet governance is multifaceted, focusing on strengthening user participation in ICANN decision-making structures, disseminating information from ICANN to promote member participation, developing Internet policy-making capabilities in the region through capacity building, and advocating for consumer interests and public accountability in ICANN policies.

With Hadia Elminiawi's appointment, AFRALO continues to contribute to AFRINIC's stability and growth, supporting the organization's mission to manage Internet number resources in Africa.
