The chairperson of the African Regional At-Large Organization (AFRALO), Hadia Elminiawi, has been appointed to the Nomination Committee (NomCom) of the African Network Information Centre (AFRINIC), reports ITREALMS.

According to the public statement available to ITREALMS, the six-man committee included Mrs. Hadia El Miniawi – Northern Africa, Mr. Houegnon Geoffroy Bonou – Western Africa, Mr. Albert Kamga – Central Africa, Prof. Madara Ogot – Southern Africa, Mr. Godfrey Sserwamukoko – Eastern Africa, and Mr. Yagianath Rosunee – Indian Ocean.

NomCom invites EoI for ICANN leadership positions - ITREALMS

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers' (ICANN) Nominating Committee (NomCom) has invited interested individuals to submit an Expression of Interest (EoI) in key leadership positions within ICANN and Public Technical Identifiers (PTI), reports ITREALMS.

The selected individuals, ITREALMS gathered, will have a unique opportunity to work with accomplished colleagues from around the globe to help shape the Internet's technical coordination and policy development.

“The deadline to submit applications is 18 March 2019 at 23:59 Universal Coordinated Time (UTC),” according to NomCom, noting that its also accepting recommendations of suggested candidates.

“We are inviting applications and recommendations for the following positions, Three members of the ICANN Board of Directors; One member of the PTI Board of Directors; Three regional representatives to the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) – one from the Asia, Australia, and Pacific Islands region, one from the Latin America and Caribbean Islands region, one from the Africa region; Two members of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) Council; and One member of the Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO) Council,” official communications available to ITREALMS from NomCom read.

ITREALMS reports that NomCom assured that this call is guided by the broad public interest, in that those selected will work to fulfill ICANN's mission to coordinate the global Internet's system of unique identifiers, and in particular, to ensure its stable and secure operation.

The selected leaders, ITREALMS also gathered, will make a valuable public service contribution toward the evolution of the Domain Name System as an essential global resource.

Key qualifications, ITREALMS equally gathered is fluency in English which is a requirement for all positions.

ITREALMS further reports that other qualifications, skills, and time commitments vary depending on the position, even as there is a new online candidate portal that replaced the previous platform.

AFRINIC sets up NomCom to replace West African board seat 2

The African Network Information Centre (AFRINIC) has set up a four-man ad-hoc Nomination Committee (NomCom) to replace the board seat 2, on or before end of May this year, reports ITRealms.

AFRINIC, ITRealms gathered is the Regional Internet Registry (RIR) for Africa with headquarters in Ebene City, Mauritius.

The replacement, according to the chief executive officer, AFRINIC, Mr. Alan Barrett, has become expedient following the recent resignation of its else while chairman, Mr. Sunday Folayan, who also is the president of the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA).

Barrett disclosed that the AFRINIC Board has appointed the NomCom to handle the election for Board seat 2 (Western Africa), which is vacant following the resignation of Sunday Folayan, who was the chairman of AFRINIC until his resignation.

The NomCom members, he said, include Mustapha Ben Jemaa (Northern Africa), Douglas Onyango (Eastern Africa), Didier R. Kasole (Central Africa), S. Moonesamy (Board representative, Indian Ocean).

Currently, ITRealms also gathered that the eight-man elected AFRINIC board has only West African, Mr. Seun Ojedeji (Nigerian) representing the Non-Regional Africa since July 1, 2016 and whose tenure will expire by June 2019.

ITRealms further gathered that with the resignation of Sunday Folayan, Mr. Abibu Rashid Ntahigiye from East-Africa and whose tenure as board member is due by June 30^th, this year, assumed the position of the chairman, while Christian D. Bope from DRC Congo and representing the Central Africa is the Vice chairman and whose seat will expire by June 30, 2020.

AFRINIC, ITRealms recalled was set up in 1997 by several early Internet adopters in Africa, during an INET workshop in Malaysia.

NomCom seeks comments with survey

ITRealms:

The Nominating Committee (NomCom) of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is seeking comments with a survey over ongoing review, reports ITRealms.

The survey which takes up to between 10 and 15 minutes, is the main instrument in the review process to express community opinion about ICANN's NomCom.

This, ITRealms reports could access the survey directly and has until 13 October.

Also, ITRealms reports that NomCom plays a critical role within ICANN as it appoints individuals to the ICANN Board, the Public Technical Identifiers (PTI) Board, the
Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) and Country Code Names
Supporting Organization (ccNSO) Councils, and the At-Large Advisory
Committee.

The NomCom organizational review, ITRealms gathered, is assessing how effectively the
NomCom is operating, how well it is achieving its purpose, and if it is accountable to the multistakeholder community.

ITRealms also gathered that following the survey, the independent examiner will attend ICANN60 to conduct further review work.

The draft final report of the independent examiner, ITRealms further gathered, will be posted for public comment, and the review is expected to conclude by mid-2018.

ICANN picks Analysis Group to review NomCom

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has appointed Analysis Group to conduct an independent review of the ICANN Nominating Committee (NomCom), reports ITRealms.

This review, ITRealms gathered is mandated by its Bylaws, as part of ICANN's commitment to its own evolution and improvement, accountability and transparency.

ITRealms reports that the review which begins immediately is expected to conclude in 2018.

Also, ITRealms reports that the selection of an independent examiner followed ICANN's rigorous procurement process, which includes independent evaluation of submissions, presentations by the highest scoring proposals, follow-up interviews, and reference checks.

A press statement from ICANN confirmed that this process was led by the ICANN organization and validated by the Board's Organizational Effectiveness Committee, which is responsible for overseeing ICANN's Organizational Reviews process.

In addition, ITRealms reports that the selection criteria for the independent examiner was developed in collaboration with the NomCom Review Working Party.

“The criteria emphasized expertise in talent acquisition, board selection procedure and experience in the not-for-profit sector. In addition, criteria such as understanding of the assignment, proposed methodology, knowledge of ICANN and the independence of the proposed review team were assessed,” officials told ITRealms.

ICANN, therefore invited former and current candidate who applied for selection by the NomCom, current and former NomCom appointee as well as former and current member of the NomCom to take active interest in the review.

NomCom Working Party volunteers get ICANN nod

The 2016 Nominating Committee (NomCom) of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has selected 11 volunteers to serve as members of the NomCom2 Review Working Party, reports ITRealms.

These include Nadira Alaraj, Satish Babu, Thomas Barrett, Hago Dafalla, Brenden Kuerbis, Cheryl Langdon-Orr, Yrjo Lansipuro, Vanda Scartezini, Eulalie Scobie-Robinson, Manmeet Singh and Bruce Tonkin.

ICANN sources told ITRealms that this selection follows the NomCom's 13 September call for volunteers.

The members of the NomCom2 Review Working Party, ITRealms gathered would work on the 2017 NomCom2 Review.

While the 2016 NomCom Chair, Stephane Van Gelder, will serve as interim Chair of the NomCom2 Review Working Party until the working party meets and selects a Chair.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers' (ICANN) Nominating Committee (NomCom) is seeking seven applications from interested individuals for key leadership positions, reports ITRealms.

Applications, ITRealms gathered were invited for some seven positions including three members of the ICANN Board of Directors; two At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) representatives with one each from the Europe and North America regions; one member of the Council of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO); and one member of the Council of the Country-Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO).

A press statement from NomCom and made available to ITRealms, indicates that individuals selected by the NomCom will have a unique opportunity to work with accomplished colleagues from around the globe and help shape the Internet's technical coordination and policy development.

Those selected, NomCom said, would also gain valuable insights and experience from working across boundaries of knowledge, responsibility, culture and geography. They will be making a valuable public service contribution towards the functioning and evolution of this essential global resource. 

ITRealms recalls that guided by the broad public interest, those selected would work to fulfill ICANN's mission to coordinate the global Internet's systems of unique identifiers, and in particular to ensure its stable and secure operation.

All applications, NomCom further said are confidential and should be received by 20 March 2016 for full consideration, while selections will be announced in August or September 2016 with successful candidates slated to take up their positions following ICANN's Annual Meeting in October 2016, whereas fluency in English is a requirement for all positions.

ICANN 2015 NomCom selects 9-man leaders

The ICANN 2015 Nominating Committee (NomCom) has announced the selection of a nine-man leadership positions within the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), reports ITRealms.

These include three ICANN board of directors, four members of the At Large Advisory Committee (ALAC), two members of the Council of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO), and a member of Council of the Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO).

The chairman of 2015 NomCom, Stephane Van Gelder, said the three members selected for the ICANN board of directors are Rafael Ibarra from Latin America/Caribbean Islands; George Sadowsky from North America and Lousewies van der Laan of Europe.

The ALAC members, he said, included Timothy Denton of North America, Kaili Kan representing the Asia/Australia/Pacific Islands, Leon Sanchez for Latin America/Caribbean Islands and Dahmani Wafa standing in for the Africa continent.

For the GNSO,, Van Gelder said Johan Helsingius was selected from Europe and Hsu Phen Valerie Tan from Asia/Australia/Pacific Islands. Whereas ccNSO has Christelle Vaval
from Latin America/Caribbean Islands.

He also explained that those selected will take up their positions after the end of ICANN's Annual General Meeting (AGM) slated during the ICANN Public Meeting scheduled for 18-22 October 2015 in Dublin, Ireland.

The NomCom, he said, is charged with recruiting and selecting a portion of ICANN's leadership. 

Further, he emphasized that NomCom is mandated to ensure that ICANN's overall leadership is diverse in geography, culture, skills, experience and perspective.

The basic criteria, according to Van Gelder, is that selectees are people of integrity, objectivity, sound judgment, support decision-making within groups, work effectively in English, understand ICANN's mission and operation, are committed to its success, have experience in world affairs, contribute to cultural, professional and geographic expertise, and could work long and hard, generally as volunteers, for the global public trust.

AFRINIC Board Election 2014 underway

The Nominations Committee (NomCom) for the 2014 AfriNIC board election has announced the final candidates’ slate for the Indian Ocean, Central Africa and Non-Geographical seats on the AFRINIC Board, reports ITRealms.

Also, ITRealms gathered the public has been invited to submit any comments regarding the candidate's suitability or any other query on the relevant candidate pages.

For the Indian Ocean, there are three candidates namely Kris Seeburn, Subramanian Moonesamy, while Andrinirina Joël Randrianasolo, reportedly withdrew an earlier nomination.

Contestants for the Central Africa include Antoine Joseph Junior Tonye; Bope, Domilongo Christian and Ngnoulaye Janvier.

And for the Independent cum non-geographic region, there are four contestants namely Andrew Kenningale Alston; Boubakar Barry; Hajanirina Ramboasalama; and Ilunga Kabwika Serge.

The voting pattern is such that commenced on May 27 and to last till June 5, 2014.

In addition, the Electronic Voting (eVoting) process is only available to members in good standing.

While the proxy appointment forms usage stipulates that it would be only generated from the member's MyAFRINIC portal once the e-voting platform is open.

A member will be able to opt to either appoint a proxy, or cast an e-vote, but not both.
