Scarcity of aviation fuel hits Arik, cancels flights
The scarcity of aviation fuel has forced Arik Air to cancel
flights in the last 48 hours across the country, reports ITRealms.
Passengers, who were not pre-informed of the cancellation
flooded various airports across the country, especially in Lagos, Owerri, Port
Harcourt and Abuja, with some returning home angrily.
ITRealms gathered that Arik passengers suffered yet another
setback at the weekend as they witnessed other airlines landing and taking off
without their experience tickets being useful at those moments.
For instance, at the Sam Mbakwe International Airport
Owerri, passengers since Saturday morning were greeted with the announcement
that their flights have been delayed by an hour before it was finally cancelled
for the day.
This shows that there was no Arik flight from Owerri on
Saturday, and when they were advised to head to Port Harcourt, it was later
gathered by correspondent that even the Port Harcourt flights were cancelled
due to non-availability of aviation fuel with a promise that there must be a
flight Sunday, July 17, 2016.
ITRealms further gathered that on Sunday, those who on assembled
at Port Harcourt International Airport from various surrounding airports were
stunned to be informed barely an hour to the supposed afternoon flight from
Port Harcourt that it has been cancelled, which forced some Arik passengers to
take to the nearby motor park as some of them have to be at the office Monday morning.
As the news gained momentum at the airport, some Arik
passengers left but were later informed that the initially cancellation was a
ploy to reduce tension and discourage the teeming already disappointed passengers
and a flight eventually took off from Port Harcourt.
Equally, Air Peace had some 30 minutes delay before taking
off from Owerri on Saturday, which was later attributed to scarcity of aviation
fuel.
In a Short Messaging Service (SMS) by Air Peace, “We
apologize for your delayed flight which was due to scarcity of Jet A1 fuel,”
part of the text message read.
