Efforts to safeguard critical national assets received a significant boost over the weekend as operatives of the Lagos State Police Command arrested five suspected telecommunication vandals and intercepted a truckload of stolen iron rods along the Ibeju-Lekki corridor, reports ITREALMS Online.

The suspects, namely Mohammed Shaibu (26), Musa Zakari (29), Abdullahi Bala (22), Salisu Musa (18), and Yahuza Bala (20); were caught red-handed while conveying stolen iron poles meant for telecommunications mast construction in a commercial truck.

The Labour Party Presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi has refuted reports that his phone was stolen at the court on Tuesday in Abuja, reports ITREALMS.

A viral video was on social media where Obi was obviously searching for his phone left on a desk before stepping out to exchange pleasantries, but could not locate it at the same position on return.

Media Rights Agenda (MRA) announced today that its office in Lagos was burgled and ransacked over the weekend by a group of unidentified intruders who made away with nine laptop computers and other valuable equipment worth millions of naira.

In a statement issued in Lagos, the Head of MRA’s Legal Department, Ms. Obioma Okonkwo, described the incident as shocking and frightening attack on the organization, saying it was still trying to determine whether the action was simply a robbery incident or a more sinister effort to cripple MRA’s operations or access its records and information since only laptop computers and other digital tools and equipment were taken away.

No money missing, stolen in CBN, says spokesman - ITREALMS

The Director,  Corporate Communications,  Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Mr Isaac Okoroafor  has said that no money is missing or stolen from the bank’ as alleged in some  media., reports ITREALMS.

A statement on Sunday and made available to ITREALMS in reaction to an recent article and audio clips in which the CBN Governor and other senior officials were heard discussing discrepancies in the bank’s accounts., describing it as distorted report.

Okoroafor told ITREALMS that the audio was distorted in a manner which depicts a different impression of the matter being discussed, which was to proffer solutions to a misunderstanding that affected the Bank’s balance sheet.

“As publicly known the CBN was approached in 2015 by the National Economic Management Team and the National Economic Council chaired by the Vice President, to assist State Governments with Conditional Budget Support.

“This happened in the aftermath of the significant nose-dive in global oil prices and associated FAAC allocations.

“In order to ensure that ordinary Nigerian workers got their salaries, pensions and gratuities and that the economy continued to recover from the recession, the Bank provided about N650 billion in loans at 9 per cent with a two-year grace period to 35 States of the Federation.

“These monies were distributed to the states monthly with documented approval of the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Presidency.

“In closing the Bank’s 2018 accounts, external auditors in their Draft  Account erroneously classified about N150 billion of these loans as bad, which negatively affected the Bank’s Balance Sheet and shareholders fund.

“The selective conversation being circulated was simply a discussion to ascertain why the auditors took that position and next steps to resolve it.

“Obviously, it soon became clear that a State Government loan cannot be classified as “bad” or “irrecoverable” when the State still exists and getting FAAC allocations.

“The Bank then reached out to the Federal Ministry of Finance and they jointly gave comfort to the auditors who accepted in writing that these monies would be repaid.

“On this basis, the auditors reversed the negative entry and the certified that the CBN’s 2018 accounts were a true reflection of the State of Affairs,” he said.

Okoroafor also enjoined Nigerians to disregard the audio and continue to trust that the Bank is doing everything it could to represent their interests in the best possible way.

“Under the leadership of Governor Emefiele, the CBN has always stood for, and vigorously pursued transparency in its stewardship of public resources and policies.

“The integrity of the CBN Governor remains unassailable.  He has no account in Dubai or anywhere in the world and would never convert the funds of CBN for personal use. Not in the past, not now and not ever.

“The use of selective wiretapped conversations of the Bank’s Management, to malign his character and integrity will never stand.

” The Bank will pursue every legal means to bring the perpetrators to justice,” he submitted.

NIMC insists stolen 4,555 national ID cards no longer in use

The Nigeria Police in Cross River State has recovered some 4,555 stolen old national ID cards with the arrest of four suspects, insisting they are not new ID cards, ITRealms reports.

ITRealms  correspondent recalls that a store house used by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in Calabar, Cross River State was recently burgled, and some items, including 4,555 old National Identity Cards carted away.

The store, ITRealms gathered was where some materials and items inherited by NIMC from the defunct Department of National Civic Registration (DNCR) were kept.

According to the spokesperson of the Commission, Mr. Loveday Chika Ogbonna, who told ITRealms  that the story was broken into and items, including about 4,555 pieces of the old National ID Cards leftover after distribution years ago were stolen.

“The DNCR and all its assets and liabilities were taken over by NIMC in 2007,” he said.

Ogbonna pointed out that the 4,555 stolen old ID cards have been recovered, and four suspected found in possession of the cards arrested by the Police in Cross River state at Eyo-Edem Street, Calabar.

“The suspects have also been charged to court by the police in line with the theft,” he said.

Ogbonna also assured the public that the recovered cards were not part of the new National e-ID Card currently being issued by NIMC.

The new National e-ID Card, he explained to ITRealms  were launched late 2014 with higher technology, thus making it extremely difficult to be faked or used by anyone who is not the registered owner.

Over 10 high-end phones, handbags stolen @ late Sir Okeke funeral

Not less than 10 phones, and several handbags were stolen at Anambra State deputy governor's father, late Sir Richard Okeke funeral at Enugu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government, reports ITReams.

The unconfirmed reports also said that although the Master of Ceremony, Mr Chido Obidiegwu, continually warned guests to guard their phones and other personal effects as complaints of missing phones had become notoriously alarming.

One of those who lost their phones and other valuables, Mrs Roseline Okoye said she lost her N50,000 and her phone on the occasion.

“I bought that phone just last week and it was a costly phone. I bought it N60,000. They took everything with my handbag. There was N50,000 in that bag. What is all this?

Wondering how this could happen in a supposed high-class function, she lamented, “No poor person was allowed into this tent were I was sitting. How can this happen here? I'm confused.

ITReams further gathered that the funeral was attended by top class politicians in the country, including former vice president, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, Anambra state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, his Enugu counterpart, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi , deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu were among the dignitaries that bade the Anambra state deputy governor’s father farewell.

Others who  were at the church service held at Immanuel Anglican Church, Enugwu-Ukwu included former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi and five deputy governors of Delta, Bayelsa, Enugu, Ebonyi, Cross River and Adamawa.

Former Governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke, National Assembly members, Anambra state speaker, Hon. Rita Maduagwu, industrialist, Chief Godwin Ezeemo, Senator Uche Ekwunife, were in also attendance.

The dean of Anglican Communion, Archbishop Christian Efobi led 100 other clergy men including 12 Archbishops to conduct the final rites for late Sir Richard.
