BREAKING NEWS: Police seals Anambra House of Assembly Complex - ITREALMS

The Anambra State Police Command, has sealed the premises of the Anambra State House of Assembly complex in Awka, capital of the state, reports ITREALMS.
ITREALMS recalls that the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Rita Maduagwu, was reportedly impeached in what industry watchers described as a minority drama on late Tuesday afternoon.

Report also has it that she was allegedly impeached by 20 of the 30 members of the House on Tuesday with a motion moved by Ikem Uzozie, member representing Aguata II constituency, and seconded by Onyebuchi Offor of Ekwusigo Constituency. Following which, Mr. Uzozie claimed he was appointed the new speaker of the house.

But reacting Wednesday, the embattled speaker, Hon. Maduagwu said the claim was false as those seeking her impeachment lack the majority which is two-third of members to remove her or governor of the state.

She, however, took control on Thursday by holding a session with a reportedly 11-man member and subsequently invited the Police to seal the premises.

However, confirming this in a press statement late Thursday, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, through the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed informed ITREALMS that this has become necessary due to breach of public peace, Thursday.

In a notice of the seal made available to ITREALMS, the Police claimed the leadership of the Assembly invited them to take over, seal off and secure the entire premises.

This, Haruna said, was contained in a letter addressed to the Commission of Police with effect from 6pm Thursday, November 15, 2018.

Although the Police did not reveal which of the leadership being referred here, but explained this measure was proactive to avert possible breakdown of law and order in the Assembly.

"The Command implores members of the Public to stay away from the House of Assembly premises till further notice. Civil servants working at the Assembly Complex are advised to report at the office of the Head of Service for further directives," he said.

Further, Haruna said the Command solicits the co-operation of Ndi Anambra in this regard and assures all citizens and residents of its determination to provide adequate security in the State,

Six years’ blackout: Reps order EEC to restore power to Seme border

The House of Representatives has ordered restoration of power supply to the Seme area of Badagry in Lagos State byNigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission after six years of blackout,ITRealms reports.

The proposition of the federal lawmakers was an outcome of a motion raised by the member representing Badagry Federal Constituency, Mr. Joseph Hontonyon-Bamgbose.

Hontonyon-Bamgbose, in a statement issued on his behalf by his Special Assistant (Media and Communications), MauhoHungbo, Sunday, in Abuja, informed his colleagues that Seme border, which is the nation's major route to other West African countries and one of the major land borders generating revenue for the  nation has been in total blackout for about six years.

He explained that the situation has led to an upsurge in criminal activities especially smuggling and a decline in economic ventures with an attendant hardship on the residents. He was of the view that the deplorable state of the road was causing hardship to residents of nearby communities and giving bad impression of the country to diplomats of neighbouring countries who ply the road for tourism and other official duties.

The House unanimously consented that the restoration of electricity to Seme area would reduce smuggling of contrabands thereby improving revenue of the government and the well being of the people. The lawmaker also informed the House of the deplorable state of the Lagos-Badagry express way constructed in 1971.

Hon. Bamgbose expressed concern that for more than 40 years no major rehabilitation work had been carried out on the road which is a key revenue points among land borders in Nigeria as it connects three borders namely, Seme, Owode-Asheri and Palshie borders.
