... Women’s support drives community to Star Prize at 2025 Anambra Day

The Women Leader of the Awba-Ofemili Development Union (ADU), Abuja branch, Mrs. Benedeth Nneka Igweobi, has urged women and girls from Awba-Ofemili to embrace humility, unity, and collective effort as tools for leadership and community development, reports ITREALMS.

Mrs. Igweobi made the call in Abuja while reacting to Awba-Ofemili’s emergence as the overall Star Prize winner at the 2025 Anambra Day Celebration organized by the Anambra State Towns People Association (ASTPA) last weekend.

She said the victory demonstrated that leadership was not only about holding positions but also about service, teamwork, and commitment to shared goals.

“Our victory sends a strong message that leadership is not just about position, but about humility, commitment, dedication, and trustworthiness. We proved that collective action, unity, and submission can lead to remarkable achievements,” she said.

Mrs. Igweobi, who led the ADU Abuja women’s delegation to the event, attributed the success to the strong support and active participation of women throughout the competition.

“The women of ADU Abuja contributed massively to this win by coming out in large numbers on our uniforms, and supporting our husbands in all aspects. Prayer, unity, and love for the community were key to our success,” she stated.

She explained that the women’s wing played a vital role behind the scenes, mobilizing members, coordinating the dance troupe, and ensuring that the community presented a united and vibrant image of its rich cultural heritage.

According to her, the women’s group intends to build on the success by initiating more programmes to empower women and children in the community.

“We plan to channel this success into projects that empower women and children. We will continue to work hand-in-hand with our husbands, being supportive while promoting unity and cooperation,” she said.

Mrs. Igweobi also urged other branches of ADU to emulate the Abuja women’s commitment, obedience to leadership, and sense of purpose, which she described as key to their success.

“Other branches can learn from our unity, organizational strength, and commitment to community development. We advise them to listen to their leaders, spouses, be obedient, and cultivate unity and love in their communities,” she advised.


ITREALMS recalled that at the 2025 Anambra Day Celebration, Awba-Ofemili scored 266 points to win the Star Prize, followed by Enugwu-Agidi with 257 points and Awkuzu with 251 points, ahead of several other Anambra communities in the Federal Capital Territory.
