Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has inaugurated the Board of the Abia State Technological Skills Acquisition Centre (ASTSAC), appointing renowned technologist Prof. Ndubuisi Ekekwe as Chairman, reports ITREALMS.
The inauguration, which took place on Monday at the Executive Council Chamber, Umuahia, followed the State Executive Council meeting.
Governor Otti, while addressing the newly constituted Board, commended the members for accepting to serve, describing them as exceptional professionals drawn from Nigeria’s technology and innovation ecosystem.
“These are the best of the best that you can find in the technology space. The Chairman of this Centre has contributed immensely to knowledge globally and is making our people proud,” Otti said.
“The Director-General is an inventor himself. We poached him from his comfort zone in the UK, and we thank him for accepting to come back and serve his people.”
The Governor said their appointment was a call to service and nation-building, emphasizing that the Board’s work extends beyond Abia.
“This is a service to fatherland, to your State, and to Alaigbo most importantly. Abia State is too small for our dreams. Whenever we plan, we should always have our brothers and sisters across this great land in mind,” Otti stated.
He explained that the composition of the Board reflects his administration’s commitment to merit and excellence rather than geographical limitations.
“We believe in skills and merit, not in geographical constraints,” the Governor added.
Governor Otti expressed confidence that the newly inaugurated Board would contribute significantly to the technological and economic transformation of Abia State.
Responding, Prof. Ndubuisi Ekekwe, Chairman of the Board, thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve, noting that technology has become a critical driver of modern economies.
“We are called to build technological capability in this beautiful State. Abia wants to rise to the mountaintop, and technology will enable that abundance and unlock prosperity,” Ekekwe said.
“From Isuikwuato to every part of our State, boys and girls, men and women will feel the impact of what leadership and innovation can bring.”
Also speaking, Dr. (Mrs.) Rita Amuchienwa, a member of the Board, commended the initiative and pledged the team’s dedication to its mission.
“This is a very good initiative, Your Excellency. I’m privileged to be part of this team that will help make Abia youth better equipped for the future,” she said.
In a statement made available to ITREALMS, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Citizen Njoku Ukoha, said the inauguration reflects Governor Otti’s vision of positioning Abia as a hub for skills, innovation, and human capital development.
“Governor Otti believes that the future of Abia and indeed Nigeria lies in knowledge, technology, and the empowerment of its people,” Ukoha stated.
“The ASTSAC Board will serve as a catalyst for building a new generation of skilled Abians ready to compete globally.”
The Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, and members of the State Executive Council were also present at the ceremony.
