Along with the report, a viral photograph began tearing through social media channels. It was not General Abubakar. It was a completely different military officer, whose actual name was printed clearly on the uniform draped across his chest.

Doing business in Nigeria is tough. While we say this all the time, nothing makes it more real than the release of annual financial reports. Take MTN Nigeria’s latest report, it shows the bruising realities faced by businesses in the country today.
Take a look at the numbers. MTN Nigeria generated a staggering ₦3. 36 trillion in revenue in the year ended December 31, 2024, up 36.03 per cent from N2.47 trillion in 2023. Yet, it is regarded as a bad year, because it reported a loss of N400.4 billion after tax for the financial year. This was due to a net foreign exchange loss of N925.36 billion from ₦740.43 billion in 2023.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, has underscored that digitalisation is key driver in advancing financial inclusion, just as he canvassed stronger economic ties with the Middle East and the Nigerian diaspora community in the region.Speaking during a meeting with Talal Al-Humond, the Assistant Governor for Monetary Affairs, Saudi Arabia Central Bank – SAMA, on the sideline of the just-concluded inaugural Conference on Emerging Markets Economies organised by the Ministry of Finance, Saudi Arabia, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Regional Office in Riyadh, Mr. Cardoso said there were lessons to be learned from Saudi Arabia in terms of infrastructural development and tourism.
