Speaking on Wednesday at the Bonny Island Tourism and Investment Summit (tagged ‘Discover Bonny’), the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Renaissance, Mr. Tony Attah, highlighted the imperative of creating new pathways to prosperity beyond the oil and gas sector.

Bonny Island remains a critical national energy hub, hosting major facilities including the Renaissance-operated joint venture’s Bonny Oil & Gas Terminal and Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG).
Redefining Bonny Beyond Energy

Delivering his address, Attah emphasized that Bonny’s economic identity must expand past its historic role as an energy powerhouse.

"The story of Bonny did not begin with energy, and it should not be limited to energy. 'Discover Bonny' is not the creation of a new identity, but a clarion call and invitation to the rest of the world to come discover the island’s rich culture, heritage, history, and hospitality," Attah declared.

Describing the initiative as a "renaissance of an old strength," he noted that Renaissance's role as a Tier-1 strategic partner reflects a vote of confidence in the leadership of the Kingdom and its people.

"Our role as a Tier-1 partner is not ceremonial; it is a statement of confidence. We believe sustainable tourism can become a powerful complement to Bonny's long-standing energy heritage, creating opportunities and dignity for our communities," he said.

In his royal address, His Majesty, King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, Perekule XI, Amanyanabo and Natural Ruler of Bonny Kingdom, outlined the Kingdom’s strategic roadmap to leverage its historical significance, natural attractions, and human capital to attract global capital.

Corroborating the vision, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), Mr. Adeleye Falade, called for deeper synergy among corporate entities operating on the island.

"We see a future where Bonny is not just an industrial hub, but welcoming to tourists from all over the world—a transformation that depends largely on multi-stakeholder collaboration," Falade noted.
Federal Endorsement and Cultural Assets

The summit, which convened top government officials, traditional leaders, investors, and private sector executives, detailed the official rollout of the Discover Bonny Initiative.

The platform aims to showcase the Kingdom's ecological assets, business opportunities, and historic landmarks to local and international audiences.

The initiative follows an official endorsement by the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, recognizing Bonny as a national tourism destination. Key recognized attractions include:

The Amanyanabo’s Palace, St. Stephen’s Cathedral (West Africa's oldest Anglican Cathedral), and the historic British Consulate.

The Finima Nature Park and the island’s pristine mangrove ecosystems.

Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited is an integrated energy company focused on powering Nigeria and Africa's industrialization. As the operator of the NNPC/Renaissance/TotalEnergies/AENR Joint Venture, Renaissance manages major onshore, swamp, and shallow-water assets across the Niger Delta.
