Nokia's 5G-ready AirScale Cloud solution - ITREALMS

Nokia's evolved Service Operation Center (eSOC) platform will be implemented for Telefónica UK's 32 million customers.

SDNbucks picks Nokia's Nuage for fully-managed SciSports - ITREALMS
The Nokia’s Nuage
Networks SD-WAN 2.0 solution has been chosen by managed service provider, SDNbucks, to provide fully managed
connectivity for SciSports, reports ITREALMS.
SciSports, ITREALMS gathered is a professional
sports data intelligence company focused on using advanced deep learning and
computer vision technologies to improve professional sports and enrich the fan
experience.
The SD-WAN 2.0 solution
interconnects sports stadiums, research and data centers, and the cloud-based
application engine hosted on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
The SciSports
real-time sports data intelligence engine, BallJames, gathers, analyzes and presents
accurate on-the-pitch data. Using video feeds from live games, BallJames
leverages computer vision technologies and advanced deep learning algorithms to
evaluate and report the performance of the players in real-time and enrich
applications used by professional clubs, the media and sports fans.
As part of its service
to professional soccer organizations, BallJames captures live high-definition
video footage using multiple cameras situated around a stadium, tracking
movement of all players, the ball and the referees. The video streams are
carried by SDNbucks' SD-WAN 2.0 network to SciSports' offices, research and
data centers, and to Google Cloud Platform (GCP), where an analytics engine
processes the data in real-time. The analyzed data is available to the coaching
staff during the game to assess tactics, while web and TV fans can view
next-generation stats as they enjoy the game. In addition, SciSports offers the
sophisticated Insight platform, a fully automated data intelligence solution.
The platform provides direct access to machine learning algorithms, which
quantify the quality and potential of over 90,000 professional soccer players
in the world. By suggesting viable transfer targets and recognizing talent at a
young age, it supports football experts in expanding their scouting scope.
SDNbucks uses the
Nokia Nuage Networks SD-WAN 2.0 solution to meet SciSports' stringent
service-level targets by providing seamless connectivity from cameras to the
cloud over a high-speed internet connection, using combinations of virtual and
physical CPEs. The Nuage Networks SD-WAN 2.0 solution leverages network
intelligence to identify network performance issues that will trigger the
dynamic steering of video streams to alternate links. All feeds are
micro-segmented and encrypted; SciSports has full visibility and control of
each video and data feed using the Nuage Networks SD-WAN portal.
The SDNbucks
high-availability hosting center accommodates all the essential multi-tenant
elements of the Nuage Networks SD-WAN platform that are used for orchestration,
management and control, with other components deployed at SciSports' sites and
at the Google Cloud, such as the Nuage Networks Network Services Gateway (NSG)
uCPE and vCPE deployments.

Nokia, China's OPPO sign patent license agreement - ITREALMS
Nokia has signed a patent license agreement with OPPO, reports ITREALMS.
Under the agreement, OPPO will make payments to Nokia for a multi-year license period.

Nokia scores first in Africa, powers 200G optical service - ITREALMS

In what sounds like the first in Africa, Nokia says it has powered 200G optical services on Telecom Egypt upgrades existing via Nokia 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) backbone network to offer higher-speed services to both broadband and mobile customers reports ITREALMS.
With this, ITREALMS gathered that Nokia doubles Telecom Egypt's existing backbone capacity on Delta Region DWDM backbone network, marking the first 200G long distance, single carrier transmission service in Africa.
With growth in demand for mobile video and ultra broadband services, Telecom Egypt worked closely with its partner Nokia to upgrade its current Nokia 1830 PSS backbone network. The network capacity increase brings higher-rate broadband services to fixed customers, as well as higher data rates for LTE mobile subscribers. Upgrading its existing Nokia PSS 1830 switches with Nokia's PSE technology enables Telecom Egypt to double its capacity while reducing operating costs.
Telecom Egypt is upgrading its backbone network using the Nokia 500G DWDM Muxponder, a programmable card that provides wavelength capacities from 50G to 250G per line port. Based on Nokia's Photonic Service Engine (PSE) coherent digital signal processor, this programmability will allow Telecom Egypt to provision and tune the wavelength capacity per optical route to ensure that its network is operated at peak performance, capacity and lowest cost-per-gigabit.

Nokia helps Hutchison 3's increase network efficiency - ITREALMS
Nokia has said its helping Hutchison 3 Indonesia to increase network efficiency on the operator's LTE network and boost the customer experience, reports ITREALMS.
Using Nokia's Spectral Performance Management solution, Nokia pointed out that it has led to a 17 per cent increase in Hutchison 3's spectral efficiency, meaning more mobile broadband for more subscribers, with faster data speeds and a more reliable service.
Hutchison 3 Indonesia wants to provide the best quality service, especially for younger subscribers who are using bandwidth-hungry applications such as video and mobile gaming. Due to high growth in subscribers and traffic, the operator must make the most out of its LTE radio network resources without adding hardware, spectrum or cell sites.
Nokia's spectral performance management technology has enabled Hutchison 3 Indonesia to proactively identify and resolve network performance issues and provide the best quality service for its growing subscriber base. Nokia AVA's cloud-based analytics generates automated recommendations that improve spectral efficiency and help prioritize investment in additional capacity.
Nokia AVA collects, stores and analyzes data from multiple sources, including Minimization of Drive Test (MDT) data. A 3GPP feature, MDT enables the collection of performance data from Nokia and other vendors' networks, tapping into billions of anonymized measurement reports sent by ordinary mobile phones.
Machine Learning algorithms, developed by Nokia's services experts in partnership with Nokia Bell Labs, analyze the data and identify patterns of usage and network behavior to provide highly granular, sub-cell level insights about subscriber density, application throughput and radio signal performance.
This forensic level of analysis helps network engineers understand where capacity is running out and how data throughout can be increased while predicting future demand from subscribers. These granular insights allow Hutchison 3 Indonesia to plan more accurately and increase the return on network investments including, future-proofing its evolution to 5G.

Shown at Sprint's booth (#S1702) during Mobile World
Congress Americas, the companies will use Sprint's 2.5 GHz spectrum, Nokia's
commercial AirScale Base Station and Massive MIMO Active Antenna, and
a VIAVI TM500 5G test device emulator. The demonstration
highlights Sprint's approach using its 2.5 GHz spectrum and game-changing
Massive MIMO technology to deploy mobile 5G in the first half of 2019.
This
first in the U.S. live 5G NR system connection using a Massive MIMO Active
Antenna can support up to 120 MHz of spectrum in 2.5 GHz. The Nokia AirScale
Massive MIMO Active Antenna is expected to deliver up to 3 Gbps peak downlink
throughput for a single sector over 5G and LTE simultaneously using Sprint's
spectrum.
ITREALMS also gathered that this enables Sprint to
offer both 4G LTE and 5G on the same radio to continue meeting its
customers' demand for unlimited data and high-bandwidth applications. 5G will
enable a great experience using 4K and 8K video streaming, and applications
such as HD Virtual Reality.
A press statement made available to ITREALMS quoted Dr. John Saw, Chief
Technology Officer, Sprint, as saying: "Sprint has long collaborated with Nokia on its
Massive MIMO and 5G innovations, and we're excited by this first live 5G
NR system connection to help us bring mobile 5G to the U.S. market in the
first half of 2019. Because of our large spectrum holdings Sprint is one of the
only operators in the world with enough capacity to operate LTE and 5G
simultaneously using Massive MIMO and huge licensed channels of 100 MHz of
spectrum on the same radios."
Marc Rouanne, President of Mobile Networks, Nokia,
said: "This joint 5G NR
demonstration using Nokia's Massive MIMO technology is another proof point of
our innovative work with Sprint as part of their Next-Gen Network strategy. The
significant cell capacity Massive MIMO offers is why the technology is playing
a central role in 5G, which will allow Sprint to provide increased coverage,
reliability and speed across its nationwide network."
Massive
MIMO, invented by Nokia Bell Labs, will be on display with the live 5G NR
connection demonstration. Nokia and Sprint will also be showcasing other
5G demonstrations at Sprint's booth, including low latency use cases for
public safety and car platooning, and an Augmented Reality demo for Enterprise.
Nokia
will also be showing a variety of innovative 5G demonstrations at the Nokia
booth (#S.1102 in the South Hall). Mobile World Congress Americas will be held
at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Sept. 12-14, 2018.

Nokia unveils in-home WiFi solution
Nokia has introduced several enhancements to its in-home
Wi-Fi solution that maximize Wi-Fi performance and simplify network management,
reports ITRealms.
The new Wi-Fi
solution, ITRealms gathered, expands
Nokia's portfolio with meshed Wi-Fi gateways and beacons, delivering a new
Wi-Fi Home Portal for service providers, introduces a mobile application for
users and provides new software functions and analytics that improve network
intelligence.
Whole-home Wi-Fi networks are increasingly being strained by
the growing number of connected devices and signal interference that comes from
appliances like microwaves, creating an influx of help desk calls by users
frustrated with their Wi-Fi performance. With more than 30 percent of calls
related to poor in-home connectivity, service providers are increasingly
challenged with troubleshooting issues that are often the result of third-party
Wi-Fi solutions. With limited network visibility into the home, this can lead
to lengthy trial and error procedures or expensive visits to diagnose issues.
Nokia's in-home Wi-Fi solution overcomes these challenges with
several new enhancements that improve the user experience and significantly
reduce the time and complexity for service providers to solve network problems.
These include:
Extended portfolio with meshed Wi-Fi solutions that include
a wide array of premium, flagship and entry level Gateways and Beacons - Wi-Fi
access points that consumers can install throughout the home to create an
intelligent mesh, extend coverage and boost performance. Beacons quickly guide
each device to the nearest or fastest access point, and ensure an optimal path
through the network.
Software enhancements from Nokia to quickly upgrade selected
existing gateways in the field to support meshed Wi-Fi networking
capabilities.
Wi-Fi Home Portal for Service Providers - Providing a single
screen, holistic view of a user's in-home Wi-Fi network, allowing service
providers to effectively manage devices, quickly identify and resolve issues or
upsell new services - such as broadband capacity or additional beacons - to
improve network performance.
New software and embedded analytic functions that compile
insights on the network, devices and interference sources to automatically
self-heal and optimize the Wi-Fi experience.
This includes algorithms that automate band and channel
steering to improve overall performance and create full in-home coverage with
seamless roaming capabilities without service interruption.
End-user mobile application - Delivering an intuitive,
simple interface that provides a visual representation of the Wi-Fi network
including a heat map to easily locate and manage dead zones and identify the
right place to add new access points to fill coverage gaps. Customers can also
quickly access device lists and management capabilities to create guest
networks.
The application gives users access to a wide array of self-install,
network care and troubleshooting capabilities.
Federico Guillén, president of Nokia's Fixed Networks

access are synonymous, putting many service providers on the front line of
customer complaints if Wi-Fi performance is impacted.
Depending on the tools available to service

Nokia unveils 4 Android smartphones, reloads Nokia 8110 for 4G
The acclaimed home of Nokia phones, HMD Global, has unveiled four new
additions to its award-winning portfolio of Android smartphones, reports ITRealms.

Nokia, China Mobile sign MoU to extend 5G for vertical markets
Nokia and China
Mobile have signed an agreement to jointly investigate how China Mobile could
extend its service offerings for vertical markets using the massive
connectivity, ultra reliability and ultra-low latency capabilities of 5G,
reports ITRealms.
The research will focus on how industries
could benefit from the growth of smart cities, smart transportation and
intelligent video analytics.
With the deployment of 5G, China Mobile will be able to
leverage network slicing to discretely support myriad new services and
businesses simultaneously with differing service level requirements. Under the
agreement, which extends Nokia and China Mobile's existing 5G
collaboration, the companies will jointly research and trial use-cases
leveraging Nokia 5G Future X network architecture as well as
NB-IoT and MEC.
The research, which will take place at China Mobile's
5G joint innovation lab, will aim to better understand:
- How
industries can be integrated into the smart city ecosystem to take
advantage of the massive new connectivity of people and things.
- How
businesses such as logistics and car rental companies can benefit from the
widespread introduction of 5G-connected automated vehicles. Nokia and
China Mobile will also expand the existing Car2X trial ecosystem in Wuzhen
to advance the use of automated vehicles, as well as technologies that
improve vehicle safety.
- How to
further enhance future network architecture security using intelligent
network protection techniques.
- How
China Mobile can access and benefit from embedded network intelligence and
the Open Network Automation Platform (ONAP) architecture to manage and
orchestrate services with network resources, and improve service
automation and network performance.
The signing of the agreement
was witnessed by Shang Bing, Chairman of China Mobile, and
Rajeev Suri, President and CEO of Nokia, at a ceremony in Barcelona,
ahead of Mobile World Congress 2018.
Marc Rouanne,
president of Mobile Networks at Nokia, said: "Together
with China Mobile we will leverage 5G to identify the applications that meet
future industry needs. At Nokia, we are bringing our Reefchark chipsets,
new advanced algorithms from our research teams from Nokia Bell Labs,

Nokia ‘factory in a box’ debuts, anticipates fast-changing manufacturing needs
Nokia-led group of 12 electronics industry players have
unveiled the ‘factory
in a box’ concept, to simplify how manufacturers could stay ahead of industry
demands 4.0 through agile production that could be packed, transported and
brought back into service in a matter of hours, reports ITRealms.
The
group, ITRealms gathered, started
working on the concept in the summer of 2017, aimed at building a single
electronics manufacturing line using cargo containers that can be moved to
locations as demand dictates.
Collaboration,
ITRealms
reports, was driven by the expected changes in manufacturing sparked by
Industry 4.0, including cloud-based solutions, robotics and new electronic
manufacturing IoT solutions, all of which will demand greater agility and
flexibility from manufacturers.
Potential
use cases include but not limited to building
for 'country of origin' requirements - The container can be driven
to a location, build the required volume, and then be moved again as needed.
The
new product introduction -
With new products, time to market is a competitive advantage. By moving the
"factory in a box" to partners, prototyping can be quickly done and
fixes quickly performed and tested.
And
disaster recovery - When a
site is hit by a natural disaster, business continuity plans kick in but can
take time. With a spare portable factory, critical customer orders can still be
achieved in a timely manner.
In
late 2017, the project took a step forward at Nokia's Digital Creativity Lab opening
in Munich, where a cargo container with a collaborative robot assembly station
was packed, moved to a new location by truck, then restarted within hours at
the new location where small Lego cars were assembled, proving the precision of
the machines.
The
final step in the proof of concept was achieved on February 9, 2018, when full
electronic manufacturing of a printed circuit board and robotic assembly and
testing took place.
The
group - Nokia, Beta Layout, DHL, Fuji, HARTING, Isel, isoloc, MTEK Consulting,
Mycronic, Rehm Thermal Systems, Viscom, and 42Q - now plans to demonstrate this
full capability at the Hanover Messe in April 2018.

Nokia addresses rising security threats to network operators
Finland-based Nokia is addressing rising security threats to
telecom networks by launching its Security Risk Index (SRI) assessment service
and Managed Security Service (MSS), reports ITRealms.
Together, ITRealms
gathered, both the SRI and MSS form a unique, holistic approach to targeting
security challenges across mobile, Internet Protocol (IP) and fixed networks in
the digital transformation era, when new services and virtualized systems also
introduce new vulnerabilities.
In addition to addressing their own security needs, ITRealms reports that operators could white label Managed Security Services to enterprises under their own brand, which offers revenue potential in the fast-growing enterprise security market and optimizes time to market.
Growing regulatory pressure and increasingly complex
networks carrying sensitive data from Internet of Things (IoT), personal
devices, and social and business applications have heightened the importance of
data security for operators. Nokia is taking a unique, integrated approach that
starts from assessing operators' security risks across various security
domains, benchmarking against industry peers, and providing a 360-degree gap
analysis and suggestions for performance improvements. This is the essence of
the Security Risk Index.
After the assessment, a managed service, powered by Nokia
NetGuard software, will complete the holistic security approach. Nokia experts
design the network security infrastructure, information management and
monitoring systems to ensure that critical information assets are adequately
protected against known and unknown threats, and that the operator meets
applicable security compliance standards and regulations.
Having secured their own networks, operators can go on to
offer the Managed Security Services, or selected elements of it, to their
enterprise customers. In partnership with Nokia, operators can easily implement
a security portfolio to open a new revenue source and increase customer
loyalty.
Patrick Donegan, principal analyst, HardenStance, said:
"Telecom operators need strategic security partners that have a deep
understanding of the unique aspects of their network environment and the threats
that they and their customers face. Nokia's Security Risk Index and Managed
Security Service propositions are an important contribution to addressing those
challenges."
Friedrich Trawoeger, head of Managed Services at Nokia,
said: "Operators must be prepared for a security breach. A dynamic,
managed security proposition is needed to eliminate possible threats, so we are
taking a comprehensive approach to security from assessing risks to managing

Nokia's security services also utilize Nokia NetGuard, a
complete portfolio of robust, end-to-end software solutions that detect,
prevent and mitigate cyberattacks by securing traditional and cloud-based
network architectures and protecting end-users and IoT devices.
Nokia's Managed Security Service and Security Risk Index
provide a comprehensive backbone for telecom security. It is important to
encompass all areas of security, including the assessment and protection of
cross-technology networks operating in multi-vendor environments, as modern
networks can be more easily exploited and carry higher risks.
