CBA Foundation lifts underprivileged widows, unveils social enterprise - ITREALMS
Commentary@ITREALMS ... making leadership SENSE with digital news!
If indications from two separate but related events that were held last December are anything to go by, then one of Nigeria’s most vulnerable groups may be on the verge of experiencing better times. The events, hosted in two separate states/regions and separated by a 20-day interval, held at a time when self-splurging by many young Nigerians was at octane levels, and saw young men and women behind an NGO that caters to the welfare of underprivileged widows and their vulnerable children, passionately putting the widows’ needs above their wants.
The NGO, CBA Foundation, its dedicated and passionate staff, supporters and donors came out in their numbers on two days in December to give widows in selected communities in Lagos and Anambra a treat during the festive season. The Lagos outreach benefitted, in a unique way, widows in six communities in Ibeju-Lekki, namely: Badore, Iberekodo, Museyo, Magbon Alade, Okunola Ilado and Magbon Iga.

Leadership, key to advancing technology, intelligent enterprise - Accenture
The latest Accenture Technology Vision 2018, report has
identified leadership as a fundamental key to advancing technology so as to
fuel intelligent enterprise, reports ITRealms.
The annual technology report from Accenture, ITRealms gathered
predicted some key technology trends likely to disrupt business over the next
three years, capitalizing on growth opportunities while also having a positive
impact on society requires a new era of leadership that prioritizes trust and
greater responsibility.
According to Accenture, adopting artificial intelligence for growth and
positive social impact means forming new partnerships with customers and
business partners.
Also, the report noted that rapid
advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and other technologies are
accelerating the creation of intelligent enterprises and enabling companies to
integrate themselves into people’s lives.
This year’s report, “Intelligent Enterprise Unleashed:
Redefine Your Company Based on the Company You Keep,” highlights how rapid
advancements in technologies — including artificial intelligence (AI), advanced
analytics and the cloud — are enabling companies to not just create innovative
products and services, but change the way people work and live. This, in turn,
is changing companies’ relationships with their customers, employees and business partners.
As part of the Technology Vision, Accenture surveyed more than 6,300
business and IT executives worldwide. More than four in five respondents (84
percent) agree that through technology, companies are weaving themselves
seamlessly into the fabric of how people live today.
For example, Google through its many applications and
analytics capabilities has integrated itself into people’s everyday lives
thereby influencing their way of life.
Google maps are used for journey management, references and suggestions
on places, products and services of interest and through this, Google can shape
people’s consumption behaviours. Also, feedback from users can influence uptake
of suggestions from Google by other people.
“Technology is now firmly embedded throughout our everyday lives and is
reshaping large parts of society,” said Niyi Tayo, Accenture Nigeria’s Managing
Director Technology during the presentation of the report to the media in
Lagos. “Just as cities developed around ports and then railroads, or people
rebuilt their lives around electricity, the world today is reimagining itself
around digital innovation — and, by extension, the companies that provide those
services. This requires a new type of relationship, built on trust and the
sharing of large amounts of personal information in a secure manner.”
The report
notes that this latest technological transformation is unique in that for the
first time the change is a two-way street; people aren’t just using companies’
products and services, but feeding information and access back to them. This
level of “integrated innovation” and degree of trust requires a deeper
relationship — a true partnership based not only on a company’s products, but
also its goals and values. And with this two-way partnership come new
responsibilities — to consumers, business partners and society at large —
requiring leadership and commitment from the top.
Savvy
organizations understand that these new societal expectations can be
transformed into an enterprise strength. They’re using their increased
interactions to build partnerships with customers, employees, government and
the public. And this extends beyond the consumer or retail arena.
Siemens, by offering its operating system for internet of things –
MindSphere; that can be used for various types of assets such as manufacturing
devices, oil and gas equipment and installations, is creating new partnerships
and embedding itself into its business partners’ architectures.
According to Niyi Tayo, Nigerian banks and telecommunication companies
are also taking the first steps towards AI to improve customer service by
implementing chatbots. They are
beginning to use advanced analytics to provide next best product offers to
increase product uptake and fraud analytics to manage risks.

The West Africa’s premier data center solutions provider, MDXi, a MainOne company has launched an advertising campaign
aimed at reinforcing the company’s position as the data center provider of
choice for enterprises in the region, tagged “Take a Break” reports ITRealms.
The campaign, ITRealms
gathered, would increase awareness of the MDXi brand as the most interconnected
and reliable West African data center company and urges C-level executives
across the region to take a break from the rigors of managing in-house Information
Technology (IT) and outsource their IT infrastructure needs to MDXi.
ITRealms reports
that the campaign, which began in October in Nigeria and Ghana includes a
redesign of the MDXi website and press adverts in numerous national
publications, building on the company’s expansion efforts across Nigeria and
West Africa.
MDXi General Manager, Gbenga Adegbiji, said, the campaign is
expected to spotlight the company’s data center initiatives not only in
Nigeria, but across West Africa including its Accra facility, a new Data Center
in Sagamu, Ogun State Nigeria as well as planned development in Abidjan, Cote
D’Ivoire.
“Unknown to local enterprises that outsource their data
center needs off-shore, MDXi is home to numerous large multinationals that West
Africans interact with daily online as we have raised the bar to provide
world-class ICT and Data Center solutions, at par with similar facilities in
Europe, Asia and America. Our Data Centers have undergone rigorous compliance
audits to ensure we are able to provide same level of service locally that our
international customers are used to” he said.
ITRealms recalls
that MainOne’s MDXI has put Nigeria on the global map, with its premier Tier
III Lekki Data Center, the only data center in West Africa that is authorized
to process and store payment card information with its PCI DSS certification.
MDXI is also certified as ISO 27001, 9001 compliant and is the only SAP
certified provider of hosting services in the region.
The company ITRealms further gathered, has
contributed significantly to deepening Nigeria’s digital economy with its
highly available, carrier-neutral ICT infrastructure, enabling network
operators and content providers exchange traffic within its data center. As
West Africa’s most connected data center and home of the Internet Exchange
Point of Nigeria (IXPN), MDXi has impacted internet traffic in-country, by
localizing traffic, reducing transmission costs and improving user experiences.

GCI: Nigeria ranks 47 tops 3 in Broadband markets
The
Global Connectivity Index (GCI), a platform that partners with policymakers and
enterprise leaders to identify, harness, and create new digital economy
opportunities with the aim of building a better connected West Africa, has at
the Huawei Cloud Congress (HCC) West Africa 2015 in Lagos rated Nigeria 47th
out of 50 countries, as well as the highest number of internet users in Africa and
top three emerging broadband markets, ITRealms reports.
ITRealms gathered
that the survey rated Nigeria as having a small fixed base but huge potential
in the uptake of mobile products as she is one of the world's largest mobile
subscriber markets and offers impressive opportunities primarily in the mobile
broadband space, where rapid m-Commerce uptake is driving market growth.
President
of Huawei Western Africa Region, Mr. Peng Song, who announced the result said,
"Overall, the 2015 GCI shows that 20 per cent growth in Information and
Communications Technology (ICT) investment will increase a country’s GDP by 1
per cent. It also identifies five enablers of digital transformation – Data Centers,
Cloud Services, Big Data, Broadband, and the Internet of Things (IoTs). These
technologies represent the targets that stakeholders should focus their
investments on in order to most efficiently transform their economies for the
digital age."
Based
on the GCI findings, ITRealms gathered
that, the HCC came up with three commendations for a better connected West Africa;
to include increasing data centre investment, developing economies need to move
from investing in supply to building demand and learning from developing
countries’ success, to become leaders in GCI.
“Make
Information Technology (IT) simple, and make business agile. It is an amazing
era with rapid growth and data explosion. In this dynamic environment, Huawei
will continue to invest in IT industry, and will continue to emphasize on the
concept of being integrated, customer-centric and providing customers with
innovative, differentiated, leading-edge products and solutions," Song
said.
ITRealms learnt
that Huawei, which forecasts that by 2025, 100 billion connections will be
generated globally with 90 per cent of which will come from intelligent sensors,
also launched the FusionCloud Solution and OceanStor V3 Converged Storage
solutions at the Huawei Cloud Congress, where Accenture, Etisalat, Fidelity
Bank, Intel, SAP and other Huawei partners, shared the cases of deploying
Huawei enterprise business solutions to enable business success.
