The CyberSafe Foundation in partnership with Google.org, has officially launched Resilio Africa, a three-year cybersecurity resilience initiative designed to protect over two million people and secure more than 15 million public records, reports ITREALMS.

The ambitious programme targets 200 Critical Community Institutions (CCIs) across Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, and South Africa, addressing a critical gap in a region where over 60 percent of countries currently fall into a low-commitment category for national cybersecurity readiness.

The Oyo State Government has enrolled about 10,000 vulnerable children in public primary schools into the state's Health Insurance Scheme under the Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA).

Oyo State governor, 'Seyi Makinde, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Barr. Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, presented the health insurance identity cards to beneficiaries at the flag-off of the public primary pupils health insurance scheme, held at the Ibadan Civic Centre, Idi Ape, Ibadan, on Thursday.

All is now set for the Uganda-based Collaboration on International ICT Policy for East and Southern Africa (CIPESA) to unveil, tomorrow, January 31, 2024, its latest report on 10 digital rights experts across the continent of Africa, reports ITREALMS.

CIPESA also said that the champions topped list of those who have played pivotal role in shaping the continent’s digital and Internet freedom advocacy landscape over the past 10 years.

Titled “A Decade of Internet Freedom in Africa: Reflections and Insights from 10 Change Makers,” the report launch will take place on January 31, 2024, via a webinar structured as a “Town Hall” discussion, where the featured experts will delve into their insights and reflections on the current state of digital rights in Africa. 

The focus will be on key lessons learned and considerations for the next decade in digital rights activities. According to CIPESA, this initiative aims to continue inspiring and informing efforts towards achieving greater internet freedom in Africa.

Dr. Wairagala Wakabi, the Executive Director of CIPESA, describes this report as a special edition commemorating the 10th anniversary of the State of Internet Freedom in Africa (SIFA) report and the annual convening of the Forum on Internet Freedom in Africa (FIFAfrica). The goal is to share the reflections, insights, and perspectives of the featured experts, contributing to the ongoing pursuit of enhanced internet freedom in Africa.

ITREALMS gathered that some experts featured in the report include individuals such as Mr. Gbenga Sessan, the Executive Director of Paradigm Initiative; Mr. Arthur Gwagwa, a Research Scholar at Utrecht University in The Netherlands; Mr. Edetaen Ojo, the Executive Director of Media Rights Agenda (MRA); Ms Emilar Gandhi, the Head of Stakeholder Engagement and Global Strategic Policy Initiatives at Meta (formerly known as Facebook); and Dr. Grace Githaiga, the Chief Executive Officer and Convenor of Kenya ICT Action Network (KICTANet).

In his foreword to the report, Dr. Wakabi emphasizes the challenges Africa has faced in achieving internet freedom, including state censorship, internet shutdowns, surveillance, and the use of repressive laws. He notes the persistent digital divide, highlighting limited internet access, poor infrastructure, high connectivity costs, and low digital literacy levels as ongoing obstacles.

Dr. Wakabi acknowledged the evolving threats to internet freedom, such as disinformation, information manipulation, and cyber-attacks, potentially fueled by artificial intelligence. 

ITREALMS gathered that the report sought to address these challenges by presenting insights and reflections from the featured experts, providing valuable perspectives for shaping the future of internet freedom in Africa.

Dr. Wakabi called for inclusive advocacy efforts, urging individuals to join the path illuminated by these changemakers. 

He, therefore, called for a more free, secure, and open internet in Africa to ensure that more people connect, no one is left behind, and no voices are silenced.

The Oyo State Governor, Engr. ‘Seyi Makinde has approved the appointments of a new set of Permanent Secretaries, Inspectors-General of Education, Tutors-General and the Surveyor-General of the State, reports ITREALMS.


A press statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa available to 

ITREALMS, indicated that the list contained seven Permanent Secretaries, 10 Inspectors-General of Education, 10 Tutors-General and the Surveyor-General of the state.

LGA Rally: 10,000 match for Ihedioha @Oguta - ITREALMS

No Fewer than ten thousand (10,000) anxious voters are expected to receive the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party-PDP, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha as he visits Oguta Local Government Area on Friday, reports ITREALMS.

Confirming the development, Oguta-born Deputy Governorship candidate of the PDP in Imo State, Rt. Hon. Gerald Irona described the visit as a “triumphant entry” to the Local Government.

Irona, who is also a former member of the House of Representatives representing Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Federal Constituency, expressed confidence that the PDP will coast to victory in the forthcoming elections.

“Yes! I can confirm to you that the campaign train of Rt. Hon. Chukwuemeka Nkem Ihedioha will hit Oguta Local Government Area on Friday, 1^st February, 2019. The visit can best be likened to a triumphant entry, as Oguta LGA is PDP. You can be sure that no fewer than ten thousand (10,000) persons will be on ground to receive the PDP delegation. Our incoming Governor, Rt. Hon. Ihedioha is coming to interact with people of the LGA. He wants to discuss with our people on how best to make life more meaningful for the people. Oguta is PDP. We love Hon. Ihedioha. He is a listening leader. He is visionary. He is courageous and has capacity to implement the blueprint to take Imo to the promised land.”

Highlights of the visit shall include: boundary reception, meeting with Traditional Rulers, Town Hall meeting at Oguta Civic Center, Campaign Rally at Trinity High School, Oguta, special traditional dances, among others.   

It would be recalled that the choice of Rt. Hon. Gerald Irona as the PDP Deputy Governorship candidate in Imo was greeted with excitement from many parts of the state, particularly, Orlu Senatorial zone of the state.

Unearthing Instagram security flaw: 10-year-old Finish earns $10,000

For successfully hacking into Instagram server, a 10-year-old Finnish hacker identified as Jani, has received 10,000 dollars, reports ITRealms.

The boy’s hacking of Instagram server assisted the company in discovering vulnerability in its back-end applications; which afforded him to delete comments on certain Instagram accounts.

Facebook in announcing this said that the boy, whose name was simply given as Jani, discovered the security vulnerability in the Instagram app, a photo-sharing service owned by Facebook in March this year.

Jani was reported to had deleted other people’s comments when he inputted malicious code into the comment field of the application.

ITRealms gathered that Jani informed Instagram about the technical fault via electronic mail (email) a few days later. Instagram in response and in appreciation rewarded him USD10,000 dollars from Instagram.

Jani pointed out that he is enthusiastic about coding games for years and had been building up his skills on his own with his twin brother.

The boy’s father, whose name was also kept on seal, said that he was very surprised that his son had learnt so much about coding and data security.

In the meantime the boy said he dreams of becoming an information security expert in the future.

“It would be my dream job; security is really important,” Jani asserted.
