Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto has shown remarkable restraint. Otherwise, former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and his Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki, would be explaining their stewardship to the EFCC and ICPC rather than granting newspaper interviews to rewrite history and turn the people against the incumbent administration. There is overwhelming evidence against them.

Governor Aliyu inherited enormous financial liabilities and administrative challenges from the previous administration — a reality reinforced by the findings of the Justice Abdulkadir Muazu Commission of Inquiry, which investigated the stewardship of the Tambuwal administration.

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON, Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar CFR and the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR have been formally invited to the unveiling of a book titled: Shaykh (Dr.) Muhammad Bashir Imam Solih OON: The Spiritual Orator.

The book launch which is scheduled to hold on Thursday 27th November 2025 at the Banquet Hall, Opposite Government House, Ilorin is the biography of Shaykh (Dr.) Muhammad Bashir Imam Solih OON, revealing his birth, career, emergence and service as the 12th Chief Imam of Ilorin and Chairman Kwara State Council of Ulama.

Sokoto ready to host All Nigeria Editors Confab 2019 - ITREALMS

The city of caliphate, Sokoto is ready to host the 2019 All Nigeria Editors’ Conference (ANEC), slated to hold at the International Conference Centre, Sokoto, from Wednesday, November 27 to Sunday, December 1, reports ITREALMS.

The All Nigeria Editors’ Conference, is the flagship event of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE.

Acting President of the Guild, Mr. Mustapha Isah, said Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has confirmed the readiness of Sokoto State to host this year’s ANEC as a mark of his strong belief in the media as a strategic partner in nation-building and strengthening of the nation’s democratic structures.

The theme of this year’s conference is: A Distressed Media: Impact on Government, Governance and Society. The keynote speaker is Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, a multi-award winning editor, Fellow of the Guild and current Editor-in-Chief of Vanguard newspapers.

This year’s ANEC, the 15th in the series, would be chaired by former Governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba. Osoba is a widely travelled journalist of repute and the first Nigerian journalist to win the Nieman Fellowship for Journalism at Harvard.

Other speakers include Mr. John Momoh, Founder/CEO of Channels TV, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Publisher Thisday Newspapers and Chairman of Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria (NPAN), Mr. Dapo Olorunyomi, Publisher Premium Times, representatives of Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON), Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON), etc.

Press statement made available to ITREALMS and signed by the Publicity Secretary of the Guild, Mr. Ken Ugbechie, said the theme was chosen to reflect the prevailing realities and challenges in the Nigerian media.

He noted that the theme was informed by an urgent and compelling need for editors and other stakeholders in the society to examine the state of the media which has in recent years come under inclement economic and regulatory circumstances.

In explaining the reason for the focus on the media, the Acting President said: “The choice of this year’s conference is deliberate. The Nigerian media is distressed and its capacity to play the watchdog role in society is being eroded and challenged on several fronts and by multiple factors. We have reached the point where all media stakeholders must come together to seek answers to the many questions and puzzles that threaten media practice in Nigeria.

“We have carefully assembled the crème of outliers in the profession drawn from print, broadcast and new media to share their thoughts and perspectives with Nigerian editors so that collectively we can proffer solutions to our challenges,” Mr. Isah said.

ANEC was first held in 2004 at Ada, in Osun State. Since then, it has been held in different parts of the country. It brings together no fewer than 400 editors and other media professionals from all over the country and beyond to focus on a designated national issues that affect the future and wellbeing of our country.

The conference also attracts foreign speakers and editors from organizations such as the West Africa Editors Forum (WAEF), the African Editors Forum (TAEF), the World Editors Forum (WEF) and the World Association of Newspapers (WAN).

Sadiq wins N1m ‘Reach for the Skye’ promo in Sokoto

A student of Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Dahiru Abubakar Sadiq, has emerged winner of N1 million in the ongoing ‘Reach for the Skye’ promo in the northern Nigerian state of Sokoto, reports ITRealms.

At a raffle draw held at the Shehu Shagari Main Gate of Sokoto Central Market, saw elated Mr. Sadiq, thanking God for his good luck and emergences in the scheme.

“…   Oh, thank you, God! Thank God for Skye bank o!” he exclaimed in excitement when a phone call was put across to him to announce the win and he immediately left his lecture hall to come to the draw venue.

Head, Retail Banking at Skye Bank Plc, Nkolika Okoli, said the objectives of the promo were to encourage a savings culture in the country while improving the lives and businesses of customers, in line with the mission and values of the bank.

“We have received feedback from winners from other geo-political zones who ploughed back their winnings into their businesses. Other customers have also confirmed that the prize money came in very handy as payment for outstanding loans or a fund for emergencies” Okoli disclosed.

She stressed that at Skye Bank, they find this very encouraging because the bank understands the importance of sustaining a savings culture and encouraging entrepreneurship.

Chijoke Osinachi wins Etisalat CliqFest star prize

A 400-level student of Uthman Danfodio University, Sokoto, Chijoke Osinachi, is now a proud owner of a Hyundai i10 car courtesy Etisalat CliqFest nationwide campus tour, ITRealms reports.

Chijoke who was dumfounded in the moment after receiving the keys to the car from the University’s Dean of Students’ Affairs, Prof. Adamu A. Aleiro could not hide his feelings as he praised the telecom operator for its efforts in giving meaning to the lives of the members of society.

“It is hard to describe this feeling that just in a moment things have actually turned around for me. I could not have imagined this when I woke up this morning. I am very grateful to Etisalat for this big lift.”

Chijoke Osinachi, ITRealms gathered, was selected from a raffle draw supervised by renowned motivational speaker, Niyi Adesanya, the University’s Dean of Students’ Affairs, Prof A.A. Aleiro and winner, Nigerian Idol 2015, K-Peace whose real name is Olakunle Ogunrombi.

Also speaking at the Presentation ceremony, Etisalat Nigeria’s Manager, Youth Segment, Idiareno Atimomo, assured the school of the company’s continuous commitment to helping Nigerians through its bouquet of customer-centric products, offerings and programmes.

According to a press release, apart from the grand prize winner, eight other students also went home with different categories of prizes. They include Fatima Aliyu and Baba Muhammad, both of whom won Laptops; Maryam T. Umar and Agboola Ridwan, both won handsets and Jerseys each; and the quartet of Habibu Tanko, Suleiman Usman, Ibrahim Tahir and Fatima Mustafa won handsets and Flash drives each.
