The Federal Government of Nigeria and Igbo leadership of Ohanaeze have been petitioned over the increasing systemic marginalization of Ndigbo in national affairs, reports ITREALMS.
The petitioner, Chief Ben Ogbonna, in a copy of the petition available to ITREALMS, highlighted the systemic marginalization of Ndigbo in national affairs, cited several instances of exclusions, including but not limited to the appointment of the Census Board members, purported glitch by the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB), infrastructural neglect and under-representation.
According to the appeal, the Federal Government's recent appointments for the national census did not include any Igbo representatives, despite the Southeast's significant population and economic contributions.
This omission, he said, could impact the region's access to federal resources and representation.
On the purported JAMB glitch, Chief Ogbonna pointed out that a technical issue that affected over 379,000 JAMB candidates, mostly from the Southeast, sparks concern about academic sabotage and unfair treatment.
While on the infrastructural neglect, he lamented that the Southeast lacks federally operated seaports, international airports, and modern rail development, hindering economic growth and development.
In addition, Chief Ogbonna lamented that under-representation of Igbo people in significant key national positions, including the military, security agencies, judiciary, and electoral commissions.
Further, the petitioner urged the Federal Government and National Assembly to address these issues, emphasizing that Nigeria's unity cannot be sustained through slogans or intimidation, but rather through inclusion, justice, and fairness.

Also, the petition calls on Igbo leaders to speak out against marginalization and demand a place at the decision-making table.
Chief Ogbonna, therefore demanded that FG and Igbo leaders must ensure adequate representation of the South-east in key national positions and decision-making processes, invest in infrastructure development in the South East, including roads, bridges, and public facilities.
He insisted that by addressing systemic marginalization will ensure fair treatment of Igbo people in national affairs, while fostering a sense of unity and fairness among all Nigerians, regardless of ethnicity or region.
The petition emphasized that the continued marginalization of Ndigbo is not only unjust but also unwise, as it threatens national survival and stability.
