Isese Day: Lagos, Oyo States declare Wednesday, August 20 public holiday - ITREALMS

Like the commercial centre of the country, Lagos State, the Oyo State Government has declared Wednesday, August 20, 2025, a work-free day to commemorate the Isese Day Celebration.

According to Professor Olanike K. Adeyemo, Secretary to the State Government, Governor Seyi Makinde approved the work-free day to allow traditional religion worshippers and residents to mark the occasion.

In a circular letter dated August 18, 2025, Adeyemo stated that the governor urged all citizens to use the day to pray for peace, unity, and stability in Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole.

The government also called for wide publicity of the governor's approval to ensure residents and civil servants are informed.

Isese Day is an annual celebration dedicated to promoting and preserving Yoruba cultural heritage, values, and traditions.

The holiday has become recognized in several Southwest states, including Oyo and Lagos, where Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has also declared August 20 a work-free day for public servants.
