The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has called for a major shift in the nation's digital landscape, urging a move from reliance on foreign digital solutions to the development of homegrown, intelligent innovations, reports ITREALMS.
This was the core message delivered by NCS President, Dr. Muhammad Sirajo Aliyu, at the opening of the 2025 International Conference in Kano State, an event he hailed as a digital renaissance for the region.
Dr. Aliyu expanded on the conference theme, "Intelligent, Secure & Sustainable Innovations For a Connected World (Connovate 2025)" emphasized that while Nigeria has seen widespread adoption of technology, a critical gap remains.
"Many of the digital solutions being developed are foreign," he said, stressing "The existing and evolving intelligent innovations must become a major consideration for us, especially with our increased dependence on these solutions for well-being and a better living for our citizens."
Dr. Aliyu articulated a vision where technology serves as a foundation for national prosperity and stability, with a viable technological infrastructure enhancing efficiency in every sector, from agriculture and healthcare to education and national planning.
He pointed out that the conference, hosted by the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, is a deliberate effort to bring this message to the forefront and foster a collaborative environment.
"Governor Yusuf is a truly amazing personality, genuinely interested in the development of this nation," Dr. Aliyu said, pointed that his support in granting digital connection with the state is a testament to his commitment to building a “new Kano State, a digital Kano."
The NCS President further highlighted that "Connovate 2025" is not just a platform for discussion but a showcase for action.
The conference, he said, featured dedicated sessions on crucial areas like Fintech Innovations, sustainable energy solutions, and youth entrepreneurship.
This, he explained, is a strategic effort to cultivate a new generation of Nigerian tech professionals and innovators.
Top-level technology experts, he said, were gathered from both within and outside Nigeria to address these issues.

The event, also featured traditional NCS programmes like the induction of new members and the grand finale of the IT Quiz Competitions for students, underscores the society's commitment to nurturing talent from the grassroots.
Dr. Aliyu concluded by expressing his gratitude to all partners, including international bodies like Microsoft Africa and the British Computer Society, and affirmed that the NCS remained dedicated to its mission of leveraging technology to propel Nigeria towards a smarter and more prosperous future.
He urged all stakeholders to embrace the conference's spirit of "fruitful discussions, new insights, and meaningful connections" to build a resilient, inclusive, and secure digital ecosystem for Nigeria.
