Kaspersky backs Paris Peace Forum 2019 - ITREALMS

The Paris Peace Forum is back for a second edition with the support of Kaspersky, reports ITREALMS.

Kaspersky said it will be supporting and joining this second edition, to present its 'Global Transparency Initiative, a cornerstone of its commitment to a more secure digital future, reports ITREALMS.

This forum, ITREALMS gathered has been slated for 11 to 13 November 2019, at the Grande Halle in La Villette.

This year, the forum brings together a multitude of public, private and civil society actors to discuss global governance and multilateralism issues.

ITREALMS reports that over 30 heads of state and government are expected, with the stated objective of accelerating international cooperation and providing a collective response to the major societal challenges of today and tomorrow.

Involved in building a safe, caring and secure digital world for over 25 years, Kaspersky (Kaspersky.com) joined the Paris Appeal for Trust and Security in Cyberspace in 2018 and is supporting the second edition of the Paris Peace Forum this year. This commitment is part of the deployment of the Global Society Transparency Initiative – a reference of good practice in the sector aimed at building trust in cyberspace with the help of all stakeholders.

On the occasion of the Paris Peace Forum, Eugene Kaspersky, founder and CEO of Kaspersky, will speak about the crucial importance of building trust in cyberspace. "For several years, confidence in all things digital has been eroding. 

"Given this, today the world’s at a crossroads. As a company, we’ve decided to act, and have made ‘increasing trust in cyberspace’ an objective of the utmost social importance with our Global Transparency Initiative. We call upon other IT companies to follow this new standard of transparency and not to let fear and mistrust prevail in the digital world," said Eugene Kaspersky.

Diplo in Paris for 13th Internet Governance Forum - ITREALMS

Diplo Foundation is at the 13th annual meeting of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) taking place between 12 and 14 November 2018, in Paris, France, reports ITREALMS.

The meeting will be hosted by the Government of France at the UNESCO Headquarters.

The three-day IGF meeting will include a large number of workshops, open forums, dynamic coalition meetings, and other events that will give participants the opportunity to engage in open discussions on multiple Internet governance and digital policy issues.

Several main sessions will also be part of the programme, on topics that will be decided by the Multistakeholder Advisory Group, in consultation with the broader IGF community. 

The outputs of the IGF 2018 intersessional activities will also be discussed at the meeting. In addition, national and regional IGF initiatives will share experiences and discuss about their specificities, challenges, and plans for the future.

36 States, FCT get refund from FG on Paris Club loan

The Federal Government (FG) has released a State-by-State breakdown of the first tranche of Paris Club refunds paid to date, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, reports ITRealms.

The refunds, gathered were over-deductions on Paris Club Loans by States in Nigeria between 1995 and 2002.

These payments totaling N516.38bn were made to the 36 States plus FCT upon the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari on November 21^st 2016 in partial settlement of long standing claims by State Governments relating to over-deductions from their Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) allocation for external debt service arising for the period under review.

Director, Information at the Federal Ministry of Finance, Salisu Na’Inna Dambatta, told ITRealms that these debt service deductions are in respect of the Paris Club, London Club and Multilateral debts of the FG and States. 

“While Nigeria reached a final agreement for debt relief with the Paris Club in October 2005, some States had already been overcharged,” he said.

He also noted that the funds were released to State Governments as part of the wider efforts to stimulate the economy and were specifically designed to support states in meeting salary and other obligations, thereby alleviating the challenges faced by workers. 

The releases, ITRealms gathered were conditional upon a minimum of 50 per cent being applied to the payment of workers salaries and pensions. 

According to him, the Federal Ministry of Finance is reviewing the impact of these releases on the level of arrears owed by State Governments.
