Speaking as a major sponsor at the opening of the 49th Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition (NAICE) hosted by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) in Lagos, General Manager of Development and Subsurface for Shell Nigeria Deepwater, Kun Jiang, emphasized the organization's enduring belief in the nation's potential.

"We continue to invest in Nigeria's future through our projects, our people, and our enduring confidence in the potential of this nation," Jiang stated during her remarks.

Underscoring Shell's strong foothold in the nation's deepwater terrain, Jiang pointed to ongoing developmental milestones such as investments in Bonga North, the HI project, and the progression of Bonga Southwest.

This deep confidence is further anchored by the recent launch of a $3 billion contract financing program by the Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), designed to empower local contractors, foster industry capability, accelerate project turnaround, and generate local economic value.

Addressing the conference's core theme, "Thriving in the Evolving Global Energy Landscape: Collaborative Growth and Resilience," Jiang noted that despite market volatility, shifting global dynamics, and geopolitical supply chain pressures, Nigeria remains uniquely positioned for immense success.

Highlighting Nigeria's demographic strength, she noted, "With a population exceeding 240 million people, abundant natural resources, world-class talent, and growing domestic energy needs, Nigeria has all the ingredients to become one of the world's most attractive energy investment destinations."

She cautioned, however, that conversion is key to turning raw potential into tangible national progress: "Potential alone does not create prosperity. Potential must be converted into progress. Resources must be transformed into value. Opportunity must be matched by action."

To successfully navigate and thrive within the shifting international energy framework, Jiang stressed that Nigeria must aggressively attract foreign and domestic capital, optimize its business climate, and leverage cutting-edge technology.

"The future will belong to countries and industries that combine resilience with innovation, ambition with collaboration, and investment with execution excellence," she added. "Nigeria has the resources. Nigeria has the talent. Nigeria has the opportunity. What is required now is the collective determination to seize it."

As part of its prominent sponsorship, Shell has mounted an interactive exhibition pavilion at the conference, with SNEPCo Senior Production Geologist Abidemi Belgore guiding industry regulators, stakeholders, and visitors through the stand.

The exhibition spotlights key technical breakthroughs that have successfully optimized output at the Bonga field and streamlined the execution of the Bonga North project. Additionally, the showcase presents a comprehensive overview of Shell's broader operational portfolio in Nigeria; ranging from deepwater oil production and integrated gas to growing renewable power solutions and impactful community development initiatives across the country.
