The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) has condoled with the family, colleagues, and associates of the veteran journalist and co-founder of Newswatch magazine, Mr. Yakubu Mohammed, who passed away at the age of 75, reports ITREALMS.
“Mohammed’s contributions to Nigerian journalism are immeasurable. As a pioneer of investigative reporting, he left an indelible imprint on the country’s media landscape.
His commitment to truth, integrity, and excellence continues to inspire generations of journalists,” the Guild said in a statement signed by its President, Danlami Nmodu, mni, and General Secretary, Mr. Sufuyan Ojeifo.
The Guild further noted that through Newswatch, Mohammed helped redefine press freedom in Nigeria by championing rigorous, fact-based reporting and nuanced political analysis during some of the country’s most turbulent periods.
“He was a mentor, a role model, and a compass for younger journalists who aspired to use journalism as a tool for social good,” the Guild stated.
GOCOP prayed that God grants the family and loved ones of the deceased the strength to bear the loss, even as it celebrated his life, work, and enduring legacy.
“As the media fraternity mourns the transition of Yakubu Mohammed, we also celebrate a brilliant career that shaped modern Nigerian journalism. His legacy will continue to illuminate the path for future practitioners. May his soul rest in peace,” the statement added.
