According to eyewitness accounts, the masquerade allegedly kicked a moving motorcyclist during the disturbances, causing the rider to fall and hit his head on a parked vehicle. The victim was said to have sustained severe injuries and was later confirmed dead, heightening public concern in the community.

In an official statement available to
ITREALMS by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Wednesday, the Command condemned the conduct as “unacceptable, unlawful, and one that will not be tolerated under any guise.”

Ikenga said the suspect is currently in police custody, adding that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals who may have been involved in the violent acts or who aided the masquerade during the breach of public peace.

“The suspect is currently in Police custody, and investigations are ongoing to ensure that all those involved are brought to justice,” he stated, assuring that further developments would be communicated in due course.

The incident, which occurred during a traditional outing in Awgbu, triggered widespread reactions after footage circulated online showing the masquerade assaulting individuals and obstructing road users.

The Police Command urged residents to remain calm and report any acts capable of disturbing public order as security agencies continue to monitor the situation.
