SNEPCo bags SERAS award for health, wellbeing as 'Vision First' initiative restores sight for thousands - ITREALMS

Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Ltd (SNEPCo) has secured a prestigious award for the “Promotion of Good health/Wellbeing” at The SERAS Africa Sustainability Awards 2025 ceremony held in Lagos, reports ITREALMS.

This recognition highlights SNEPCo's enduring commitment to high-impact Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), particularly through its flagship Vision First initiative, which has cumulatively reached a remarkable 6,538 individuals since its inception in 2022.
The SERAS Africa Sustainability Awards, established in 2007 as a gold standard for CSR recognition across the continent, honored SNEPCo for its substantial investments in health—a cornerstone of the pioneer deep-water company’s operations since the Bonga field commenced production in 2005.

Founder of the SERAS Awards, Ken Egbas, commended the recognized organizations for “not only doing well but doing good,” underscoring the strategic importance of sustainability projects in Africa.

SNEPCo Managing Director, Ronald Adams, expressed gratitude for the accolade: “We are pleased at the recognition of our modest efforts to make life more meaningful for the people. The award is also a tribute for the support of NNPC Upstream Investment Services (NUIMS) and our co-venture partners—Nigerian Agip Exploration Limited, TotalEnergies Nigeria, and Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria (Deepwater) Limited.”

The latest and 5th outreach of the Vision First initiative, the flagship of SNEPCo’s broader Health-in-Motion programme, took place in Asaba, Delta State from November 17 – 22.

The numbers confirm the program’s vast scope:

• Total Registration: 1,927 individuals registered during the Asaba outreach.
• Consultations: Over 1,300 received essential medical consultations for ailments like hypertension and malaria.
• Vision Restored: 174 people received sight-restoring surgeries for cataract and pterygium.
• Eyeglasses Dispensed: Nearly 1,500 individuals were provided with eyeglasses and essential eye drops.

Bolanle Odunayo-Ojo, Senior Asset Manager, representing the SNEPCo MD, affirmed the commitment: “Through free eye screenings, treatments, and surgeries, we are working to restore sight, renew hope, and reaffirm our commitment to the health and dignity of every individual.”

The success of the Asaba outreach was secured through robust collaboration with the Delta State Ministry of Health, Aniocha North Local Government Council, and the Jos-based NGO, Kolmarg Eyesight Foundation.

Professor Olukorede Adenuga, Executive Director of Kolmarg Eyesight Foundation, emphasized the profound economic value of the initiative, noting that “Investing in eyecare and carrying out blindness prevention programs have been shown to have the highest returns compared with investments in other area of healthcare.”

Since 2022, the Vision First program has dispensed nearly 5,000 prescription glasses and enabled 667 vision-restoring procedures, firmly positioning SNEPCo as a leader in corporate health responsibility.
