The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, has expressed profound grief over the passing of veteran journalist and unionist, Comrade Ariyo Akinola, a respected professional who served with distinction at the New Nigerian Newspapers. He passed away on Wednesday night in Lagos, reports ITREALMS.
The statement noted that Comrade Akinola, a former Internal Auditor and Financial Secretary of the Council, carried out his duties “with uncommon diligence, transparency, and an unwavering sense of responsibility.”
His colleagues remember him as a man of “humility, simplicity, and gentle disposition,” qualities that endeared him to journalists across different generations.
According to the NUJ leadership, Akinola’s active participation in union activities and his passion for members’ welfare set a standard worthy of emulation.
