A total of $142.5 million was paid to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) last year by The Shell Petroleum Development of Nigeria Ltd (SPDC) and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo). SPDC paid $112.5 million while SNEPCo remitted $30 million compared to $59.04 million by SPDC and $20.73 by SNEPCo in 2022.

The contributions came from the Shell companies on behalf of themselves and their respective partners –. Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC); TotalEnergies, EP Nigeria Limited; NAOC; and Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited – as statutory contributions to the interventionist agency.

The Shell Nigeria has exclusively paid a total of $1.09 billion, about N2,707,310,000,000.00 trillion, in corporate taxes and royalties to the Federal Government of Nigeria for year ended 2023, reports ITREALMS.

These payments were made through the operations of the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd (SPDC) and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company of Nigeria Ltd (SNEPCo).

Nigeria’s leading domestic gas distribution company, the Shell Nigeria Gas Limited (SNG), has commissioned a far-reaching gas market survey in 33% of the states in Nigeria to gain deeper market insights for entry and to accelerate the achievement of Nigeria’s Decade of Gas objectives. SNG has engaged notable indigenous consulting firm, Philips Consulting Limited, for this project which has the potentials to advance Nigeria's energy transition agenda.

SNG’s Managing Director, Ed Ubong, said, “The outcome of this survey will provide additional insights into gas critical role in transforming Nigeria to an industrialized nation. This key commercial activity of identifying gas supply and expansion opportunities cuts across all regions in the country and would leverage Nigeria’s $2.8 billion Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) pipeline project to penetrate the key Northern markets.”

Shell offers medicare to 170 drivers in Ota - ITREALMS

Estimated 170 public transport drivers have benefited from the general medical consultation and screening services organised by Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG) as part of the activities marking the 20th anniversary of the gas distribution company, reports ITREALMS.

The one-day programme held recently in Ota, headquarters of Ado Odo/Ota Local Government area of Ogun State, saw the drivers screened for blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), blood sugar, cholesterol, malaria parasite, and HIV. There were also eye checks, prescription lenses, dental care, pharmaceutical services and distribution of insecticide-treated nets.

Speaking at the opening session, the Managing Director of SNG, Ed Ubong, represented by the company’s Operations Manager, Niyi Salami,described  the health programme as part of the many community-focused initiatives of Shell Companies in Nigeria to support efforts by government at all levels to make life better for the people.

“The health and safety of the people are critical and we see our company as continuing to play a role in supporting the efforts of government to take promotive, preventive and curative healthcare to the people where they work and where they live,” Ubong said. “By ensuring quality state of health of public transport drivers including their sight, safety standard on our roads will be enhanced and this will help to reduce health-associated carnages on our roads.”

The programme was held in collaboration with Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government; Ogun State Ministry of Health; and the state’s Primary Health Care Board (PHCB).

The Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, commended SNG for the health programme among its many other supports to the host community in Ogun State. He also praised another Shell company, Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company, for its robust medical outreach programme in Ogijo, also in Ogun State.

Shell’s Regional Community Health Manager, Dr. Akinwumi Fajola, who led the medical team advised the drivers not to ignore early signs of health challenge which he said could help in prompt and effective management of hidden medical conditions by medical officers.

In attendance at the programme were the representatives from the state’s Primary Health Care Board, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Ado Odo/Ota Local Government and Community Development Associations.

Renewable energy: Shell partners Akon to light up kinect pitch @ FCET Akoka

Music icon Akon has partnered with Shell Nigeria to lighten the first Africa’s human and solar powered football pitch at the Federal College of Education Technical (FCET), Akoka, Lagos, reports ITRealms.

The new pitch is the latest initiative from Shell under the #makethefuture initiative, intended to put clean energy ideas into action to the benefits of the hosting communities and its environ.

ITRealms gathered that the football pitch was refurbished by Shell using over 90 underground tiles that capture kinetic energy created by the movement of the players. 

Also it was learnt that the tiles were invented by a young British entrepreneur and founder of Pavegen, Laurence Kemball-Cook, who has been supported through Shell LiveWIRE. The kinetic energy enables the storage of energy combined with power generated by solar panels to operate the new floodlights. 

Thus allowing the students to play even at night and provides a safer and more secure space at the heart of the community.

Osagie Okunbor, Country Chairman at Shell Companies in Nigeria & Managing Director of The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd (SPDC) said, Shell makes a significant contribution to energy solutions for Nigeria, and is committed to supporting the Nigerian economy and its people. 

"We need bright energy ideas. Some of these will come from Shell but naturally, others will come from outside our business. So it’s crucial that Shell supports energy entrepreneurs, and we hope that this pitch will inspire more entrepreneurs and young people to help us make a smarter energy future,” Okunbor said.

Commenting, Akon describe as new dawn with reliable smarty energy solutions playing a major role in driving human progress in Africa. 

“Projects like this innovative football pitch draw attention to the major opportunity that Nigeria as well as the whole of Africa have if we look to better harness new technologies and the continent’s abundant renewable energy resources,” he said.

The Provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Dr. Siji O. Olusanya, said “We have more than 10,000 student teachers, who will benefit from this innovative solution to light our football pitch.”
