To mitigate the health risks posed by climate change, key Nigerian agencies led by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) have commenced the co-development of a national multi-hazard early warning system, reports ITREALMS.

The Health Supervisor in-charge of Tuberculosis, Buruli Ulcer and Leprosy (TBL) in Awka North, under the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ASPHCDA), Mrs. Celestina Igwe, has stressed that early detection and accurate information are crucial to reducing the growing burden of Buruli Ulcer in rural communities.

The United Nations (UN) Emergency Relief Coordinator, Tom Fletcher, has released US$5 million from the Central Emergency Fund (CERF) for anticipatory action for floods in Nigeria.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed claims of forced mass retirements, clarifying that its Early Exit Package (EEP) is entirely voluntary and without any negative repercussions for eligible staff, reports ITREALMS.

The Office for Strategic Preparedness and Resilience (OSPRE), a center for the coordination of early warning and response mechanisms in Nigeria has charged stakeholders to collaborate as well as put in place measures that ensure rapid response to issues that constitute a threat to human security.

Director General OSPRE, Chris Ngwodo who gave the charge at the end of the two-day inaugural summit and technical workshop of the concord initiative in Abuja noted that, to mitigate the continuous outcry of inefficiency government needs to work in collaboration with the civil organization as they cannot carry out the duty of safeguarding citizens alone.

IPV6 Council adduces need for early migration, visits Internet Solutions

The Internet Protocol version Six (IPv6) Council in Nigeria has adduced need for early migration and adoption in the country, especially in the Information and Communication Technology sector, reports ITRealms.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to Internet Solution Nigeria, a leading Internet Service Provider in the country, Council chairman, Mr. Muhammed Rudman, noted that the visit was designed to interact with Internet Solutions Nigeria, which the Council believes could be paving the way towards the realization of IPV6 migration, which is seen globally to provide enhanced Internet service experience.

Rudman decried the low level of IPv6 ready networks, as well as usage in Nigeria, despite the fact that the country occupied first and eight positions in internet usage in Africa and the world respectively. “We are worried that some countries in Africa have started migrating to IPv6 networks, yet Nigeria that prides itself as number one in terms of Internet usage in Africa is not making a serious move,” he said.

He commended Internet Solutions for deploying IPv6 on its  network and urged other service providers in the country to consider migrating to IPv6  for Nigeria to maintain its position in Africa and move higher in the global ranking.

He also said that migrating to IPV6 would create more robust and realtime end-to-end  Internet connectivity and avert the possible blockade from the exhaustion of Internet Protocol version Four (IPv4) addresses.

Responding, the Head, Network Operations at Internet Solutions, Mr. George Olunwa said that Internet Solutions has since deployed and advertised IPv6 block on the Internet, but the challenge is largely apathy from the enterprise customers, who are yet to see a pressing need for the implementation of IPV6 on their networks.

While thanking the IPV6 Council Nigeria for the advocacy visit and efforts so far, Olunwa assured that Internet Solutions would continue to push the idea of implementing IPv6 to its customers, admitting that the cost of migrating from IPv4 to IPv6 is next to nothing.

“What we have seen is that most of the clients are still going for IPV4, even though the cost of getting IPv6 is minimal. But, we believe that with this sort of advocacy being carried out by the IPv6  Council Nigeria, service providers as well as enterprise networks will begin to see a need for the deployment.

He also suggested a possibility of providing virtual lab for IPv6 within country, saying that will assist towards capacity building which can help to upscale the deployment and adoption of IPV6.

IPv6 is the most recent version of IP, the communications protocol that provides an identification and location system for computers on networks and routes traffic across the internet. 

An Internet Protocol (IP) address is essentially a postal address for each and every Internet-connected device. Without one, websites will not know where to send the information each time a person performs a search or try to access a website.

Six ways children can benefit from early exposure to technology

New and emerging technologies have always been associated with the younger generations. To complete the entire course requires a huge dose of mental discipline and personal resolve. A note of caution: It is important to mention that parental supervision is key. A child should not be given a tablet without supervision. Handing over a tech device to your child requires a great level of responsibility so, as a parent, be sure to trust your instinct. However, the fact is allowing children have access to tech devices can benefit them in many ways. As a parent, you may understandably be nervous at first, but there are some real, tangible benefits to be had from exposing your child to tech devices such as tablets. Most experts recommend not more than a half hour of screen time per sitting for a child. This is bearing in mind that tablets may be addictive for children because it allows quick, instant access to everything in the real world. As long as parents do their best to monitor, protect, and prepare their children and usage doesn’t get out of hand, technology exposure can provide great opportunities for children to grow and develop that you may not have anticipated.

Reapville School opens, promises best early childhood education

The management of Reapville School had announced its opening in Mafoluku-Oshodi in the centre of excellence, Lagos, reports ITRealms.

The proprietor, Mrs Philomena Ugwuoke disclosed that admission is ongoing for full educational activities to commence.
