The Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has called on investors in the energy sector to partner with the state, as he commissioned the first independent power project in the state, declaring, there is a huge energy market in the state, reports ITREALMS.

He stated this on Friday, while commissioning the first phase of the 11 Megawatts Ibadan Hybrid Power Plant, the state's first-ever Independent Power Project, at the Power House, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

The Federal Government (FG) has been beckoned upon through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Anambra State government led by Prof. Chukwuma Soludo to urgently assist flood victims in Awba-Ofemili town among others.

Awba-Ofemili is a community in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State and was heavily ravaged by the recent flood, sacking some villages including in Umuosite and some parts of Ege, Nkpuocha, Oka-akwu, Ngene Nkpumekwu communities to name a few.

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ibrahim Pantami, has assured the nation that Nigeria’s telecom regulatory framework has been designed to address the challenges that may arrive with the advancement of the Internet of Things (IoT) in the country.

Pantami, who spoke at the twin event - Stakeholders Consultative Forum on Regulatory Roadmap for IoT Ecosystem in Nigeria, hosted by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC); and presentation of two books authored by the Minister, declared that Nigeria has already exhibited its preparedness to harness the potentials of this new service, as demonstrated in the reduction in incidences of cybercrimes in Nigeria over the past two years.

COVID-19: James beckons Lagos, others to partner Rotary on palliative distribution - ITREALMS

The President, Rotary Club of Ikeja South, Rotarian Michael Effiong James, has called on the Lagos State Government and corporate organisations for partnership in deploying all palliatives in cash and kind over the ChineseVirus-19 also known as Coronavirus or COVID-19 lockdown, reports ITREALMS.

This call, he said has become imperative following spates of protests and anger over the poor and inequitable distribution of palliatives by government officials and others.

James noted that about 80 per cent of the over 100 clubs in District 9110 are located in Lagos State and they can mobilise their extensive network and know-how to help the government fight this pandemic as well as touch people's lives.

According to the Rotarian, who is also a journalist and the Editor, Ovation International Magazine: “I was in tears as I watched the good intention of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to provide succour to Lagosians in form of palliatives being rubbished by poor execution, and it occurred to me that Rotary can actually help to right this wrong.

“Rotary is an organisation of professionals, who, as volunteers, are committed to the service of humanity, and, therefore, would be able to use their knowledge of needs assessment, project siting, project monitoring and closeness to the communities to good effect.

“In addition, its time-tested record of probity as a result of the application of the 4-Way test has made Rotary an organisation that is trusted worldwide, which is reason it holds the highest consultative status at the United Nation's Economic and Social Council, which oversees many UN agencies.

“In Rotary, we have a wide range of professionals, from medical doctors to nurses, lawyers to engineers, these are not greedy or hungry people, but Nigerians who are genuinely passionate about putting smiles on people’s faces, so this is a situation that they are best equipped to handle.

“They also have partnered with governments and individuals successfully in the past and see no reason that Governor Sanwo-Olu and Rotary International District 9110 Governor, Rotarian (Dr.) Jide Akeredolu cannot join forces.

“That is not all.

“Due to Rotary's experience with Polio eradication, its huge data bank of facts and figures may actually help the Ministry of Health and the Nigerian Centre For Disease Control in the area of contact tracing and enlightenment.”

Rotarian James also used the opportunity to call on residents of Lagos and Nigerians in general to adhere to the instruction of hand washing for at least 20 seconds, social distancing, cleaning of hard surfaces around their homes and most importantly staying at home.

He said these measures, difficult as they may seem, will help to flatten the curve, stop the spread of the virus, save more lives and enable us return to our normal day-to-day activities in good time.

He revealed that Rotary International has encouraged clubs to intervene in the fight against COVID-19 and while some have already done theirs, Rotary Club of Ikeja of South and others, are fine-tuning plans to embark on impactful intervention projects as contribution to the global effort.

Eviction notice: Middle Belt council beckons on Ndigbo

Middle Belt Youth Council (MBYC) has declared their support for the Ndigbo in face of eviction threat by coalition of Arewa youth, saying Ndigbo are always welcome to the Middle Belt, reports ITRealms.

The President of Middle Belt Youth Council (MBYC), Emma Zopmal, in a press statement endorsed by him personally and made available to ITRealms, said they were about the ongoing regional tension in Nigeria today and wishes to make her position clear to the world.

As said by Zopmal, in the light of incessant threats to one Nigeria posed by killer-herdsmen, they want to call on good people of Middle Belt to first of all, support the anti-grazing Bill, stressing that grazing by Fulani herdsmen on Middle Belt land has become the major cause of conflicts in the region.

“We're calling for total ban on open grazing so as to save the lives of our people and their farmlands,” he said.

Also, he noted that Nigeria is facing a daunting challenge of peace and unity but assured on the good citizens of Nigeria that they have been a peace-loving people and remain so.

Warning that in any event one part of the country decides to go away as a separate entity, the Middle Belt is ready to make an independent statement.

“We want to clarify those who think that the Middle Belt is part of the North: God created everywhere and everyone and He gave it to whom He chooses and Middle Belt is a creation of God and not man (Usman bn Fodio),” the council said.

MBYC, therefore said, they choose what to use their land for; how to run it and where we want to be. Middle Belt has been a home for the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, South-South and the South-West without any form of discrimination against anyone.

“We've accommodated every Nigerian for centuries now. We deserve respect and commendations,” the council said.

MBYC declared that if the Arewa youths are sending away Igbos from their states, “we in the Middle Belt are ready to offer them accommodation in our land for them to continue with their life and businesses.”

Southern Nigeria people, he said, should know that 'Middle Belters' are not northerners and will never be because “we're not affiliated in terms of culture, language, education, economy, and general lifestyle. The Biafran struggle did not come as an accident but as a result of injustice and unfair treatment to regions, people or religion.

Over the years, the group said, the federalism has been a fat lie that deprives political rights and freedom of some sections of the country while others benefit immensely from it. Middle Belt has been at the receiving end of this inequitable arrangement in which people in Southern Kaduna, Southern Bauchi, Southern Borno, Southern Kebbi, Adamawa are under constant alienation and annihilation.

Therefore, Middle Belt strongly stands for reconstruction of Nigeria not only restructuring.

“We'll join hands with Southern Nigerian people to actualize it. In view of this press statement, we want to urge Middle Belters to remain resolute in making sure we protect our future against the claims by the Hausa/Fulani. More so, for want of peace and unity of dear country Nigeria, we call on Igbo nation to feel at home in the Middle Belt in an event they are sent away from the Arewa land,” he submitted.
