Absence of socio-economic data bane of Nigeria ICT growth -Gov Mimiko

The executive governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko has blamed Nigeria’s stunted Information and Communications Technology (ICT) status on absence of social and economic data, reports ITRealms.

He called on the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) to consider harmonizing technology ideas from different ICT groups in the country, into a common vision that will guide the development of ICT nationwide.

Mimiko who was represented by his deputy, Lasisi Oluboyo,ITRealms gathered,gave the advice while declaring open, the 12th International Conference of NCS in Akure, said Nigeria as a country, has skilled manpower with technology ideas, but lacks the platform for harmonization. He challenged the NCS to assemble the finest technology brains in the country in order to drive national development with ICT.

He eulogized the Ondo State Residency Card, commonly referred to as 'Kaadi Igbe Ayo', which he said is a home-grown solution that would further enhance the people oriented programmes and projects of the state. , stressing “The card project is primarily aimed at service delivery management and not for identification."

ITRealms reports also that the President of Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), Prof. Vincent Asor, corroborated the Governor, saying that Information Technology (IT) as a tool for national development cannot be overemphasized. He said CPN is currently working on new ways to register all IT professionals in the country in order to have a comprehensive database of IT professionals that will enhance collective development of the country.

 "CPN is working on a new certificate that will identify IT professionals in the country,that will also help in eliminating quackery in the system," Asor said.

The outgoing President of NCS, Prof. David Adewumi in his keynote said this year’s  theme, 'Information Technology for Inclusive Development,’ was carefully chosen to drive thoughts towards using IT for national development, considering the fact that development in all ramifications, is pivoted in information technology.

Breaking News: Ondo deputy governor Alhaji Ali Olanusi impeached

The embattled deputy governor of Ondo State, Alhaji Ali Olanusi has finally been impeached by the members of the State House of Assembly at the State capital, Akure this morning, Monday April 27, 2015, reports ITRealms.

News report monitored in Lagos by correspondent showed that Alhaji Olanusi with 22 out of the 26 lawmakers consenting to the impeachment. Whereas two abstained, another two members belonging to All Progressive Congress (APC) were absent during the Monday proceeding.

ITRealms also gathered that Olanusi had been under investigation over seven allegations of ‎gross misconduct and anti-party activities, which led to the setting up of a 7-man panel of investigation by the State Chief‎ Judge, Olasehinde Kumuyi.

The investigation panel chaired by Hon. Olatunji Adeniyan, ITRealms learnt, had earlier in the morning submitted its report to the House.

The impeachment, according to Channels TV was top on the agenda of Monday’s plenary session attended by 24 out of the 26 members of the House, including the Speaker, were reportedly in support of the process with two abstaining out of the 24 abstaining.

The motion for impeachment of Alhaji Olanusi was moved by the Majority Leader, Hon. Henry Akinsoyinu, who disclosed to the house that the seven impeachable offences of gross misconduct and abuse of office levelled against Mr. Deputy Governor have been proved, hence it was seconded by the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Oyebo Aladetan.

The Seven man panel of investigation set up by by the State Chief‎ Judge, Olasehinde Kumuyi, chaired by Olatunji Adeniyan had earlier in the morning submitted its report to the House.

The Speaker of the House, Jumoke Akindele, adopted the motion and declared the Deputy Governor impeached and removed from office.

She gave a directive that all the government property in possession of the Deputy Governor be handed over to the Permanent Secretary in the office of the Deputy Governor.

ChannelsTV also reported that the two members of the House belonging to the opposition party, APC, Gbenga Edema and Fola Olasehinde, were absent at the sitting.
