NAF Hospital Lab wins ISO 15189 certification for quality systems - ITREALMS

The 661 Nigerian Air Force Hospital Laboratory (661 NAFH), Ikeja-Lagos, has won for the second time, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 15189:2012 accreditation certificate for quality management systems and excellent service delivery, reports ITREALMS.

According to the Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet in a press statement available to  ITREALMS, he said the award was presented to the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Oladayo Amao at the Headquarters NAF, Abuja by the Registrar, Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), Dr Tosan Erhabor.

NAF gets new spokesman as AVM Adesanya joins diplomatic corp @Moscow - ITREALMS

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has appointed Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola as the new spokesman with effect from Wednesday, 2 August 2018, reports ITRealms.

He takes over from Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Olatokunbo Adesanya, who has been at the helms of Information management in the NAF since April 2017.

Nigerian Air Force, Wing Commander, Bassey Okon, said the new Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI) was the Commander, 041 Communications Depot, Shasha, Lagos before his recent appointment

“AVM Adesanya will be departing the country shortly, following his appointment as Nigeria’s Defence Attache (DA) to Moscow, Russia,” he said.

ITRealms also gathered that Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola is a member of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Regular Course 39 and was commissioned into the NAF as a Regular Combatant officer in September 1991.

Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola holds a Master of Science Degree in Telecommunications Engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, New Jersey, United States of America and a Post Graduate Diploma in Telecommunications and Electronics Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. Air Commodore Daramola also holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from NDA and a Certificate de Langue Francais from Alliance Francaise.

Since joining the NAF, the new DOPRI has attended many military as well as professional courses, some of which include Electronics Engineering Officers’ Basic Course at 320 Technical Training Group, now Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Kaduna as well as Junior and Senior Staff Courses at the prestigious Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji. He was also a participant at the National Defence Course, National Defence University in Islamabad, Pakistan. He has also participated in several short courses, seminars and workshops within and outside Nigeria.

Additionally, the new NAF Spokesman has served in various units and Commands of the NAF. He was the Deputy Research Officer at the NAF Research & Development Centre and Chief Instructor Electronics Engineering Maintenance School at AFIT. Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola was a Directing Staff, AFCSC, Jaji, Deputy Director Communications, Headquarters NAF (HQ NAF). He had a brief stint as the Deputy Director Plans, HQ NAF, Abuja. He is happily married and blessed with children. At his leisure time, the new DOPRI loves reading and listening to gospel music.

Two hi-tech helicopters in Lagos, as NCS handsover to NAF

The Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command of the Nigerian Customs Service on Friday handed over two seized hi-tech civil model Bell helicopters imported into the country by yet to be disclosed persons to the Nigerian Air Force, reports ITRealms.

According to correspondents, NCS said the hi-tech helicopters were handed over to NAF for failure by the yet-to-be-identified importers to produce end user certificate from the office of the National Security Adviser.

The NCS said this was in contravention of Section 36 (2) of the Customs and Excise Management Act and that the seizure was effected on November 7, 2016 in line with section 46 of CEMA.

Customs Area Controller, Frank Allanah, told journalists that the value of the two helicopters and other accessories was over N9.7bn.

“The helicopters were flown in as a consignment with Airway Bill Number 17232444403 into the country through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport. The choppers were detained at the Skyways Aviation Handling Company Limited shed pending fulfillment of all legal requirements for the importation,” he said.

The chopper, he said, would be useful to the Nigerian Air Force in the fight against insurgency as the chopper were specially designed for such operations.

Speaking during the hand over the chopper , the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, said the choppers and accessories would be taken to the NAF hangar at the Lagos Airport for full examination in collaboration with Customs officials .

He described the handover as a milestone as the configuration of the aircraft was fitted for military combat operations.

He said the handover had presidential approval adding that all legal issues had also been considered.

Lai Mohammed says ‘Tragic Accidental Bombing Not True Reflection of NAF's Professionalism’

The Federal Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has described as utterly tragic the accidental bombing of a civilian community in Rann, Borno State, by a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) jet, causing deaths and injuries, reports ITRealms.

In a press statement in Abuja on Wednesday, the Minister through his Special Assistant on Media, Segun Adeyemi, sent his condolences to the families of those who died in the unfortunate bombing and prays for quick recovery for the injured.

Alhaji Mohammed, who recently led members of the BBOG and the media to Yola, where the Air Component of the fight against Boko Haram is based, said he was particularly saddened because the accidental bombing is not a true reflection of the level of professionalism that he witnessed during the visit

''One of the things we went away with after spending some two days at the Tactical Air Command in Yola is the strict adherence to operational guidelines and the high level of professionalism of the officers and men, especially the young pilots who fly high-risk missions day and night.

''Among others, we witnessed pre- and post-mission briefings for the pilots, the high attention paid to details, especially concerning emergencies and weather, and the evacuation plan in case of accidents.

We heard that on several occasions during their sorties, fighter pilots have had to hold their fire after observing the movement of women and children in Sambisa. We also witnessed the same careful disposition when we flew to Sambisa with the pilots.

''It therefore came to me as a rude shock to learn, a few hours after leaving Yola, that one of the fighter jets has accidentally bombed civilians, including aid workers,'' he said.

The Minister urged the NAF to continue to take the necessary measures to avoid civilian casualties, as it carries out its challenging task of keeping Nigerians safe
