The Nigerian President, Senator Bola Tinubu, has approved the appointment of retired Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Hashimu Argungu, as the new Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), reports ITREALMS.

With this appointment, the former Inspector General of Police, Dr. Solomon Arase, ceases forthwith.

All is now set for the 2022 annual conference of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) billed for Thursday, October 6 at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, as keynote speaker and panelists are now in town for the epoch event, reports ITREALMS.

Confirming the development, Chairman, 2022 Conference Committee, Mr. Ken Ugbechie was quoted in a press statement by the Publicity Secretary of GOCOP, Remmy Nweke, that the keynote speaker and Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu is live in Lagos for this conference to be presided over by the founder, Centre for Alternative Policy Perspectives and Strategy (CAPPS) Dr. Umar Ardo, who arrived on Wednesday.

The 2022 conference of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) slated for Thursday, October 6 at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos will be headlined by experts and moral authorities from different fields of human endeavour listed to serve as panelists at the conference.

They include the former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Solomon E. Arase, human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr. Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, and Dr. Chichi Aniagolu-Okoye, Regional Director, Ford Foundation (West Africa).

I didn't steal 19 police vehicles - Arase insists

The former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. Solomon Arase has insisted he did not steal 19 police vehicles, describing it all as lies, reports ITRealms.

Arase also maintained that the 19 assorted vehicles belonging to the police were not recovered from him even as he raised the alarm that some forces were bent on tarnishing his image.

Reacting on the heels of a similar one on July 18 and following another media report that 19 out of 24 vehicles he allegedly took away upon retirement had been recovered from him, Arase on Monday, warned that he would not hesitate to seek legal redress if those desperate to tarnish his image fail to desist.

“It is embarrassing for me to wake up on Monday morning to be inundated with calls and messages on purported 19 vehicles recovered from me. I wish to reassure the general public that there was nothing like that. Like I said in July, I did not take any police vehicle with me outside what I am entitled to, and so, there couldn’t have been any vehicle recovered from me. If there was any such, those behind this campaign of calumny should please make the number plates of the vehicles public and where they were recovered from.

“Rather than dissipating so much energy on ‘project drag Arase down’, I urge those behind this evil campaign to face their official responsibility for which much is expected from them by the nation. I have done my bit and my own records bear me witness. Let those daily frightened by the shadow of Arase learn to face reality and stop chasing shadows so that they are not hunted by same”, the ex-police boss stated. 

Upon claims by his successor Ibrahim Idris in July that he went away with 24 police vehicles, Arase had in a statement then said " I suspect there must be a disconnect somewhere because every information needed by my successor are provided in my hand-over notes. It's unfortunate that this matter is being made a media issue because my successor has my telephone number and could have called me for any clarification or even sent me a text message rather than addressing the media on an issue well documented in my hand-over notes."

Dismantle all check points, Buhari directs CDS, IG

Nigeria Chief of Defense staff, Alex Badeh and Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, in a meeting with officials of the Ministry of Defense at the state house, has both received orders by President Muhammadu Buhari to dismantle all military check points nationwide, ITRealms reports.

In a report released by News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) permanent secretary, Ministry of Defence, Malam Ismail, confirmed the statement at a press briefing.

“The President has instructed the Chief of Defense Staff to get the Chief of Army Staff and the Inspector General of Police to remove all the military men along the roads across the country,” he said.

Speaking further on arrangements made so far in the implementation of decisions reached during the Lake Chad Basin Commission, Ismail said, “Nigerian armed forces are very ready, we have briefed him but one most interesting thing about it is that we are going out much happier because he has shown us he is still a soldier.”

On the relocation of the military command centre in Nigeria to Borno, he noted that the issue was extensively discussed, stressing that the centre would soon be fully operational.

The Permanent Secretary also expressed optimism on the issue of Boko Haram boldly declaring that based on the hopes given them by the President, he feels happy going to fight the war as he sees peace and security in the very near future
