In Nigerian aviation, there exists a sacred, unwritten law that every frequent flyer learns to recite like a creed: "If you must travel by air, book the first flight of the day."

The logic behind this doctrine seems foolproof. The aircraft is presumably already parked on the tarmac overnight. The flight crew has had a full night’s sleep. No previous delays exist in the system to cause a domino effect. 

Armed with this supreme confidence, you set your alarm clock for 4:00 AM, forfeit a proper night’s rest, skip breakfast, and brave the pitch-black morning roads of Lagos to reach Murtala Muhammed Airport (MM2) by 6:00 AM.
