Not less than 250 entrepreneurs, investors, influencers, and government leaders took part in the investment-focused Innovators Gathering, reports ITREALMS.

The gathering is also saw the influx of two-way investment and trade opportunities set to be announced and catalysed during the U.S.-Africa Leaders’ Summit.

The U.S. government continues to support women’s full and free participation in the economy by creating platforms that enable them to thrive in their businesses, succeed as entrepreneurs, and prosper in their communities.

On Monday, the U.S. Consulate hosted a virtual event to welcome 250 Nigerian businesswomen selected to participate in the fourth cohort of the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), a U.S. government initiative that supports women entrepreneurs around the world.

AfricaWorking targets 250,000 for youth entrepreneurship talents

A newly formed private sector led-initiative, AfricaWorking, has declared its commitment to the employability and entrepreneurship of African youth with estimated 250,000 talents in the next four years, reports ITRealms.

The group also said that this targeted agenda of 250,000 is expected to boost some 200,000 youth and 50,000 entrepreneurs by 2020.

ITRealms gathered that AfricaWorking comprising private companies like Microsoft, Barclays Africa, Emerging World, FranklinCovey, Knod, Safal Group and Syngenta, are joining forces with the objective of channeling their collective powers to create job opportunities across continent.  

ReStraL Ltd, a company founded in 1996 by a former Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Ifueko Omogui-Okauru, represents FranklinCovey in Nigeria and other parts of English speaking Africa.

The Dean of the Microsoft 4Afrika Academy, Lutz Ziob, explained in a press statement made available to ITRealms that most large corporations are looking at youth skills development in one form or another, because it’s important to their businesses. 

"The idea behind AfricaWorking is to bring these corporations together, align their efforts, share their learnings and build human capital on a pan-Africa scale,” he said.

For the General Manager, Enterprise Development: Citizenship for Barclays Africa, Charles Reed, anticipates that by 2045, Africa’s labour market would be the biggest in the world, pointing out that it presented a huge opportunity for the group to engage the youth, help them develop relevant skills and find meaningful employment opportunities.

Mr. Reed said key to the effort to realize the agenda was for members of AfricaWorking to collaborate and leverage technology where it makes sense to do so.
