The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has commenced a nationwide ward-level enrollment exercise for the National Identification Number (NIN), reports ITREALMS.
Starting Monday, February 16th, 2026, NIMC personnel and licensed front-end partners commenced a rotational movement across all wards to capture the data of citizens and legal residents.
This initiative is a core component of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes inclusive governance and national development by ensuring every individual has a verifiable digital identity.
By decentralizing services to the community level, the commission aims to eliminate the travel burdens and logistical hurdles that have previously hindered many Nigerians, particularly those in remote areas, from obtaining their NIN.
The ward-level rollout represents more than just a logistical expansion; it is a deliberate effort to deepen identity inclusion across all demographics, including children and the elderly.
Dr. Kayode Adegoke, NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications, emphasized that the exercise is entirely free of charge, warning the public against unauthorized fees during the process.
To ensure a seamless transition into the wards, NIMC has initiated extensive sensitization campaigns. The commission is actively engaging with state governments, local government chairmen, traditional rulers, and community leaders.
Furthermore, faith-based organizations and market associations have been brought into the fold to foster high levels of participation and trust.
This multi-stakeholder approach is designed to create a "ward-to-ward" momentum, encouraging families to come out en masse to register their children and dependents within their own familiar environments.
