Fresh data from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed a significant shift in Nigeria's electoral demographics, as women and youth emerge as the driving force behind the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, reports ITREALMS.
The latest statistics highlight a growing civic consciousness among Nigerian women. Out of the 1,228,648 citizens who have completed their online and physical registration during this phase, 696,891 are female, compared to 531,757 males (43%).
This trend underscores a pivotal moment in the nation's democratic journey, suggesting that the female electorate may play a more decisive role in upcoming polls, including the highly anticipated 2027 General Elections.
The youth remain the undisputed engine of the CVR exercise.
According to the data, individuals aged 18 to 34 represent a staggering 69.02% of all new registrants, totaling 848,066 individuals.
This massive youth turnout reflects a generation eager to influence policy and governance through the ballot box.
In terms of occupational distribution, housewives (20%) and those in the business sector (20.08%) lead the pack, followed closely by those in farming and fishing (16.08%).
The significant participation of housewives aligns with the overall lead in female registration, indicating a grassroots mobilization among women in residential communities.
Geographically, the North-West and South-West regions are showing robust participation.

Jigawa State currently leads the federation with 98,698 total registrations (8.03%), followed by Lagos with 86,307 (7.02%) and Sokoto with 77,004 (6.27%).
Conversely, registration in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) remains officially suspended in accordance with the Electoral Act 2022, as the territory prepares for its Area Council Elections on February 21, 2026.

The Commission continues to emphasize that "Every Vote Counts" as it works to consolidate its digital database to eliminate multiple registrations.
With 673,124 citizens completing their pre-registration online and 555,524 finishing the physical biometric process, the hybrid registration model is proving effective in reaching a diverse cross-section of the populace.
As the CVR Phase II progresses, the surge in female and youth engagement serves as a clarion call to political parties to tailor their manifestos to the interests of these leading demographics.
