The family of the late Pa Adolphus and Victoria Chigbo of Abidi Village, Umuoji, in Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, has officially announced the funeral arrangements for Barrister Princess Nwamaka Mediatrix Chigbo, reports ITREALMS.
According to a statement released by Mr. Celestine Chigbo and Dr. Maureen Chigbo on behalf of the family, the rites of passage will commence on Thursday, February 5, 2026, with a Vigil Mass at 5:00 pm at the Adolphus Chigbo Family Compound in Abidi Village.
This will be followed by a Night of Tribute from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, where colleagues and friends will honor her distinguished career and service.
On Friday, February 6, 2026, the day’s proceedings will begin at 8:00 am with a "Lawyers’ File" to receive the body, followed by a lying-in-state at the family compound.
The Requiem Mass is scheduled for 10:00 am at Our Lady of Seven Sorrows Catholic Church, Abidi Village, with interment and reception to follow immediately at the Pa Adolphus Chigbo Compound.
An outing Mass will conclude the ceremonies on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at 9:30 am at the same church.
The announcement comes amidst a somber reflection on the harrowing circumstances of her death. Barrister Nwamaka was abducted while on a phone call with her sister, Anthonia.
During the brief kidnapping, family members were subjected to traumatizing calls from the abductors who demanded a three-million-naira ransom amid threats and curses.
Despite immediate efforts by the family to engage the Inspector General of Police, the FCT Police Commissioner, and the "Scorpion Squad" anti-kidnapping unit, the rescue mission ended in tragedy.
Dr. Maureen Chigbo, who flew from Lagos to Abuja to identify her sister, discovered Nwamaka’s lifeless body at a specialist hospital mortuary, showing severe signs of torture, including a cracked skull and physical bruising.
Until her untimely death, Princess Nwamaka was a shining light in both the legal and religious communities.
Beyond her roles in the NBA, she was a committed member of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) and the Global Association of Female Lawyers (GAFA), and a former President of the Catholic Lawyers Association, Abuja.
A devout Catholic and author of a book on the Infant Jesus, she held leadership positions in several religious organizations, including the Infant Jesus Association.
While expressing gratitude to the police for their ongoing cooperation and to well-wishers for their prayers, the Chigbo family remains steadfast in their demand for justice.
They urge the Nigerian Police Force to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are apprehended and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
Guests traveling for the funeral are advised to follow the route from Nkpor Junction through the Nkpor-Umuoji Road to Abidi Village, turning at the Old Post Office toward St. Scholastica Monastery Road.
