NLNG bolsters media capacity with 2026 #NLNGChangeYourStory workshop @Abuja - ITREALMS

In a strategic move to future-proof the Nigerian media landscape, Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has concluded a three-day intensive capacity-building workshop for 32 journalists in Abuja, reports ITREALMS.

The 2026 edition of the #NLNGChangeYourStory initiative offered deep insights into the rapidly evolving roles of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital communication in the modern newsroom. 

This training reinforces NLNG’s long-standing commitment to professional excellence and stakeholder empowerment through hands-on sessions where participants explored how cutting-edge digital tools can be deployed for real-time reporting, cross-border audience expansion, and deeper platform engagement.

Speaking at the event, Sophia Horsfall, NLNG’s General Manager for External Relations and Sustainable Development, reaffirmed that capacity development remains a core pillar of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework. 

She noted that the initiative equips journalists with the technical confidence required to produce professional content in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment, describing journalism as a calling that informs, educates, and influences society. 

She urged participants to leverage their new skills to amplify their impact and expressed optimism that improved storytelling would reflect NLNG’s vision of being a globally competitive energy company improving lives sustainably. 

Horsfall also highlighted NLNG’s broader media support, including the prestigious NLNG Prize for Energy Reporting at the Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME).

Earlier, Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku, NLNG’s Manager for Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, emphasized that the company is deliberate in its investments to raise professional standards. 

She remarked that the workshop moved beyond theory to address the real pressures of a digital newsroom, including speed, verification, audience trust, and relevance. According to her, NLNG’s support is aimed at strengthening a resilient media ecosystem that produces accurate, impactful journalism capable of shaping public understanding and contributing to national progress.

The training was facilitated by renowned digital communication specialist Dan Mason and the Journalism Clinic, led by veteran media trainer Taiwo Obe. The curriculum guided journalists through practical approaches to digital storytelling, data visualization, online fact-checking, and the effective management of digital presence. 

Since its inception, the #NLNGChangeYourStory initiative has empowered over 180 journalists across Nigeria, equipping them with the high-level digital communication and social media skills necessary for the 21st-century news cycle.
