The media community has been thrown into mourning following the passing of Elder Abah Lazarus Onah, the father of veteran journalist and Publisher of National Record, Comrade Iduh L. Onah, reports ITREALMS.
The late Elder Onah transitioned in the early hours of Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the age of 83.
A native of Ogene in the Amejo Ward of Edumoga District, Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State, the octogenarian was a pillar of his community in North Central Nigeria.
His passing was confirmed in a statement issued on behalf of the family by his granddaughter, Barrister Theresa Onyikwu Abah, who noted that the patriarch succumbed to a diabetes-related illness.
Elder Onah was a man of profound faith and a devout Catholic, actively serving within the Catholic Men Organisation and the Holy Family.
He was notably devoted to the memory of his late wife, Mrs. Onyikwu Theresa Onah, who passed away in 2012; following her death, he vowed never to remarry, maintaining a lifelong commitment to their union.
A respected father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Pa Onah leaves behind a significant legacy through his eight children. They include Comrade Iduh L. Onah, Mrs. Janet Agbo, Mrs. Maria Ameh, Mrs. Jumbia Etuka, Mrs. Margaret Oji, Mrs. Mary Oheitonye, Mr. Sunday Onah, Mr. Onah J. Onah, and Dr. (Mrs.) Juliana Ejeikwu.
The family has indicated that further details regarding the final burial rites and funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
